ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Meanwhile I decided to pay some ATO between some AFL games pretty much because I can. The 0.42% fee is such a bargain on Visa and MasterCard provided you are not using cards that pay no points.

So............as a mesmerised little newbie who has just found this thread and is wanting to dip a little toe in the water of ATO payments, council rates and land tax (state revenue office). Are there any cards still out there for a small spender that will still award points? All I have is a CBA Diamond awards MC, a 28 degree MC and a base level Amex gold card (no annual charge). I am expecting to have to do the largest transaction of my life with a Cap Gains Tax payment on sale of a building owned by a family company (I know, that's not the way you should hold property but even the acountant didn't know what to do when CGT was first introduced and now we have to face the fiscal consequences ). This one off event will happen some time in June (bad timing) and will be about $100000. I also have some BAS to pay (only say $3000 per quarter but it all adds up). Any advice you honourable gentlemen have would be gratefully accepted by this lowly grasshopper.

Welcome Xanthe. Just be aware that there are many women on here who will also provide heaps of eggsellent advice.

Warming to get some AA miles next so we can fly across the water from London to Los Angeles. Citi US is back on my favourites list as the $AUD has staged a recovery to 0.77/ 0.78 region.

OK bbqwer we will be interested in the tester of the other ANZ Black Rewards CC.

After waiting 7 days, I can confirmed ANZ rewards black definitely no more ATO points :(
Luckily the Visa rate still 2 points - I hope this last longer!

What did your rewards statement show? The purchase on the LHS and then zero points in one of the RHS columns?
Or has it not showed up yet?

Nothing show up at all. No mention anything about ATO transactions

I might be being optimistic, but that could just mean it hasn't been processed yet... even if you have made transactions after the ATO one(s), it could still be in the system, waiting to be processed.

There's been a bit of chat about QUDOS on here, but I'm loathe to go through their onerous application procedure (which in all likelihood I wouldn't pass because of my "complicated" financial structure).
I'm therefore wondering if anyone has done anything with Bank Australia, previously mecu. I checked their Ts and Cs and there is nothing precluding us using their cards.
Thoughts anyone? Or should I just take one for the team?
Regards,
Peter

I've often wondered about Bank Aust but haven't seen anyone follow through with an application. I for one, would appreciate you taking one for the team!

For $189 pa & 1pt for $1 with Visa is not a bad deal regardless. I think I'll put in an app myself.

How do you feel that compares against the SPG Amex (eff. US$1:1.25 AA)?

I don't have any experience with Amex US (don't have the US address required to apply apparently) but FX rate on my Citi US card is pretty close to spot which is great considering no FX fees.

You'd think that on a weekend before the 3rd Q BAS is due that the ATO would like to actually have their web site working!

Can use the BP and in general:

This since yesterday morning ...

At least OptusSmartPay is working ... although I havn't used it beyond bringing it up ...

I just google "Government Easy Pay" and that site works. I guess it is the Optus gateway you refer to serfty. So I log on and say goodbye money.
I hope the next Government start spending the money I send in better than over the last "lost decade". Time for a new Government to balance up receipts and payments better or our children and grandchildren will be saddled with debt all their lives.
