ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Going through this large list of posts. It seems all cards by NAB are out (who i currently have cards with). I have a few smallish payments to make to the tax department from last year and a few probably this year, any way to avoid signing up for a new card to at least get some points from the deal?

if you find out let me know. i think it's a bit like SG payents, sort of sacred. haven't managed to work out how to do that yet either

Yes, would be lovely...

BTW - ANZ Black paid for ATO on AMEX... you all knew that but thought I'd mention it's still working:)

Anyone know if Virgin Flyer works??

I suppose if your employees asked to be paid by PayPal you could...
Indeed thats the issue, they are unlike to be accepters of credit cards (though some may be) so the issue is they need to be a merchant. But most woudlnt be keen because there would be a cost to them.

As I said the second 15% surcharge can be paid personally as it is a secondary levy where a taxpayer has a taxable income of $300,000 or more so it is a special situation and the forms you receive give you the choice of paying it personally or out of the superfund. I chose to pay that on a credit card and leave the superfund to keep growing so yes we paid it personally.

Ah, thanks for the extra detail on that cove. That definitely makes sense that the secondary levy is definitely able to be paid personally. I thought that you had paid the initial 15% contributions tax via personal credit card and reimbursed by your SMSF. Since we've had mixed results from others doing exactly that, I think it might be worth me asking a question to esuperfund themselves to see if they allow it. Hopefully they do, and more points coming my way!

Have you all seen the Australian 20 cent coin issued in 2010 with the writing " The Australian Taxation Office Centenary 2010" and across the top "Working For All Australians".
I was lost for words.

You could gross the amount up so you effectively pay the fees, or you can make payments to "friends or family" by credit card and pay the fees yourself.

I don't imagine many employees are interested in receiving funds by Paypal, but family members who work for the business and enjoy the benefits of the points could be persuaded I imagine.

Sure but then the question would be does the points justify the fees.

Hi all, Nizar kindly confirmed for me in another thread that ANZ Frequent Flyer Black is still ok for ATO payments, just wondering if it is the same with the ANZ FF Platinum? Also does paying ATO contribute towards minimum spend requirements?

Thanks

More like "Stealing from Most Australians"!

HSBC is changing the points earn rate on ATO for Qantas FF to match up with Woolies so from August 1st it will be a point per dollar for $2500 and then half a point after that.
i just happen to have a number of ATO bills that are due later on in July so I may give HSBC a bigger share.

Wow. ..pardon the pun; lucky I didn't get this one to replace my WOW MC!

Having been a Chartered Accountant for over 30 years the safer course is to pay the funds primary taxes by bank.
If an auditor lets you do otherwise you still temp the wrong outcome. Who needs the ATO sniffing around over a c/c transaction
Not me

Good pun kpc. The ATO will now get a string of $2500 payments each month from families who keep WOW and HSBC cards running purely for the 0.42% fee transaction.

Had my AMEX issued cards cancelled for using the "PayPal" Friends and Family to transfer money into my wife's account. Cited breach of terms and conditions no opertunity to explain or justify they said there was zero tolerance.

Yes the ANZ FF Platinum is good for ATO. I don't see why it would not contribute towards minimum spend requirements..?
