I have a week left to complete this months taxes and I have made some good progress but I will have to reload the selected cards before the deadline of 21st November. I miss using Citibank and American Express Ultimate as the combined $338,000 of their limits going down the tubes makes ATO payment time more of a chore.
I have found some uses for those 5 cards so all is not lost. Those cards live on and have not been cut into many pieces using my titanium bladed 3M scissors.

Holy credit card limits batman that is some combined limit!!!

Yes and they are the ones I cannot use anymore for ATO!
Lucky I diversified the credit card portfolio.
Had to grab a card off Mrscove this morning but then I found the card in my pile. Oops!

I understand the points aren't getting accrued anymore on a lot of cards but is it still considered a credit purchase or is it a cash purchase?

as an example, my boss owes $15000 on his credit card at 20% (crazy I know) and he never pays out the balance and therefore pays interest every month. When it comes time to pay the ato can he put $15000 into credit card to pay out the balance and then pay the ato with his credit card effectively saving the interest on the card for month - the 0.48% credit card fee?

I know that HSBC cards treat it as a credit purchase...

None of mine consider it a cash advance, there will be trailing interest to pay (if that's the correct term) but it's a step in the right direction.

I often pay the ATO a couple of days late to coincide with my cc statement date to gain the full interest free period. Only personal taxes though not PAYG I paid that 1 day late once and they sent me a warning letter

All my cards pay points by the way :)

I haven't noticed any of my cards treat it as a cash advance: Westpac Altitude Black, ANZ FF Plat, Woolworths EDR Qantas & Citibank Signature.

Same here - CBA DIA Amex.....now ATO deceased QF Ult.

The only thing I've noticed that gets tagged as a cash advance is an on-line lottery purchase......use the card at the newsagent for the same thing and it doesn't - go figure?

I believe the ANZ doesn't consider them cash advances, only gambling chip purchases are.

Found another ATO quarterly for my youngest son so I put it through a QF point per dollar Visa at 0.42% fee. Yes that rate is a bargain but the Visa card I used is capped at 200,000 points.

Hi all,

I'm new to Oz, having been well into CC points accumulation back in Scotland - so please be kind.

I've read through this and the other forums, but just want to summarise...

Am I correct in thinking the Westpac Black Altitude still allows ATO payments at one of the better rates? The fee is worth it for me for travel insurance.

My options are a little limited as no credit history here , but Westpac migrant banking said I can apply. So it gives me amex and MC easily.

Cheers!

Yes, it's all good for ATO and IMO the best 1.5ppd Amex if you're aren't fussed about Qantas earn: such great flexibility!

Yes welcome moving country can be difficult with cc limits. I arrived here 8 years ago having cancelled my black Amex and was told by CBA I could have a cc with a $4k limit lol

Anyway I went back to Amex pronto who were good and after about 3 years I had $150k + with cc limits so it doesn't take long. Unfortunately the "real Amex" is no good with the Ato so Westpac sounds like your best option.

Does anyone "Great Rate" their ATO payments on CBA cards? Seems like a great idea...pay big tax bill get 0.99% p.a. for 3 months "great rate" and then pay it right before next BAS/IAS is due. Makes the Amex surcharge seem even more tolerable. Thoughts/experience?

No I just take advantage of the Westpac "free days" pretty much every month so I get the benefit spread nicely over each year.

I should have said not asking cove :p your ATO payments would probably be so big CBA couldn't even fund them for 3 months ;)

Thanks all, accepted today in store.
Will be eagerly watching for more tips, and almost cant wait for my first BAS...

Yes, welcome Chimp, this is probably the only place you will ever hear about people being happy about paying tax
