ATO Credit Card Points Summary

Hi all,

Question from my parents..

"Have a few cards to choose from to make a payment to the ATO.. (Payment is approx $10,000)

ANZ QANTAS Platinum AMEX (This has a $6,000 limit for earning points)
ANZ QANTAS AMEX
NAB QANTAS Rewards Premium (platinum) AMEX
NAB QANTAS Rewards AMEX

Are any of these cards not eligible for points when paying ATO?

Looking at moving to the ANZ Black. (No points limit) So may make the move before paying.."

Any help much appreciated.

cheers gogo

All will pay points but the non-platinum/premium cards will only pay 1pt/$ instead of 1.5pt/$.

I'd put it all on the NAB premium (limit allowing - if not, put the balance on ANZ) because the points cap only kicks in at $100,000 meaning they'll earn for their other spend on the ANZ Amex this month.

Great thanks for that! Will pass the message onto mum. :)

Thanks for the list points update.
BUT....Having purchased the discussion paper from the Knowledge Centre, there appears to be no clarity as whether or not the payments show as a Cash Advance...and therefore if /if not attracting an interest cost.
Obviously, this would be a deal breaker
Can anyone set me straight here, please

Great post...I got caught recently using my Citibank as my Woolies card was at limit...what a waste :(
Agree with an earlier post that you never get a clear answer calling in or trawling through the T&Cs
Another area I got caught recently was using the Qantas Ultimate Amex at Australia Post & for Insurance...there I was thinking I was receiving 1.5/$1 - quickly switched to the Citibank Visa as they seem to pay 1 for 1.

Re NAB QF Plat Amex - since when did this have a $100k monthly points cap? Or do you mean something else?

AFAIK the transaction should be considered a purchase, not a cash advance, as with any other similar payment.

This card does indeed cap points earn to $100K of spend per month.

Does anyone have an update on newly issued HSBC cards? Wondering is the Woolies demerger has changed the ATO points. HSBC website does say no business expenses.

Most on this forum chose the uncapped Woolies card so you may battle to get an answer to your HSBC question. We have HSBC accounts but never bothered to apply for their points capped card and I doubt that I would be an orphan.

Thanks Cove. I have the original Woolies card. Just looking for another similar M'Card/Visa so I can 'share the love' and not raise any 'overload' flags.

The word is it won't be 'uncapped' for long with a $2,500/month limit for 1ppd earn coming shortly.

Yes it is time to extract all the points possible from that card before the scissors cut. With ATO due on March 3rd an early payment idea would work nicely.

I think the card will continue to be advertised as uncapped, as it is uncapped. Just that the earn rate halves after 2.5k per month.

So Cove, you take capping as starting after the March statement is issued? Ie late feb spend will be uncapped?

I started the 3rd March taxes on 25/01/2015 as I am doing quite a number. Early bird saver should work.
