Came back from a couple of months in Europe in late June and after weeks of great food and a great trip on Emirates bus class, the toasted ham cheese and tomato at Sydney Qantas lounge was a thing of beauty.

Toasted sandwiches in the lounge,it's a race to the bottom.
There was a time when such food stuffs were not considered as fit for a reputable lounge.And , you have to join a queue!
If desperate and stuck in the lounge for while I will admit to odd tasted cheese and pineapple
I was in the REX lounge recently at lunch time and they had freshly made,individually wrapped chicken schnitzel,roast beef and salad sandwiches .Yes, no queue, toasting optional.

i have seen chips in the QC, never in the J lounges. Obviously too infra dig for J class people.

And here I am remembering my travel in the 90's as a guest of my father with a comprehensive buffet selection in the Ansett and Qantas lounges.

Yes, VA did have toasties before QF, but VA's "enhancement" of deleting the ham is just one more nail in the coffin for me of continuing loyalty to VA. It will be a dark day some time in the future if I finally have to admit that QF is the better option, after all my decades of bagging them.

I am travelling with VA next month but will give their lounge a miss .I will most likely use my PP and have the fresher sandwiches with meat and chicken in the REX lounge.

Don't mind a QP toastie but will always check what the soup of the day is first.

I saw the title and thought, no contest - they both came last. After 10+ years as WP I landed at LTG and can't believe how poor the QP/ Gold offering now is. Take your head torch to the MEL international J lounge, breakfast in the daylight-less MEL QP probably so you can't see the offerings. It's true the self made toastie is better than most of the food offerings in the lounge but it's a very low bar.

My recipe for a QC toast is bread of choice, 3 slices ham, smear of mustard, 3 slices of cheese, double layer of sliced tomato. Toast until cheese is melted.
