Jetstar takes aim at Top End

JETSTAR is launching its Top End invasion with $99 one-way fares on direct flights to Darwin from Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
But the no-frills carrier's entry into the market will lead to Qantas ditching its Melbourne-Darwin service.
From May 1, Jetstar will fly the Melbourne and Brisbane return services six times a week, with twice-weekly flights to Adelaide.
Daily flights between Melbourne and Darwin will be introduced from July 1.
Qantas will continue to fly daily services on the Brisbane and Adelaide routes. But once the $99 launch sale ends at midnight tomorrow, one-way fares will rise to $179 for restricted Jetsaver tickets and $499 for unrestricted JetFlex tickets that earn equivalent frequent flyer points to full economy Qantas fares.
