Fair enough, just wasn't sure if he'd seen the other card is all.

It was definitely worth a mention for any one reading this thread. I have been looking at the woolworths one, it's definitely one to keep ;). Couldn't imagine keeping the ANZ one with such a poor offering and all the negative comments on this forum re: service.

I was half just pointing out the bonus had increased but began to think it's actually worth the effort. Might even get the gf to signup on the ANZ one since the income requirements are significantly lower. Which is sometimes a road block to those of us still studying... sigh.

The bonus seems a lot higher than other basic cards recently so might be good time to jump in. When you look at all the mile buying programs in the US it makes it feel hard to gain points with QFF.

Hopefully one day ANZ will realise they need to increase its VISA earn rate for QFF, in order to be competitive with the Woolworth card. But given the other big banks still keep the VISA earn rate at 1 point per $2, doubt there is any incentive for ANZ to immediately up the earn rate for its VISA.

I would hazard a guess this raising the incentive to 20K indicates ANZ are quite award of the new kid on the block.

Citibank visa is $1-1 point with QFF :)

Hey guys,

So I've been browsing these forums for a while trying to figure out which credit card to go for. I was heavily leaning towards the AMEX platinum edge but I then received an offer from ANZ for their qantas frequent flyer card with the first year annual fee waived and 5000 points. However when I went through the application form it appears that I was in fact entitled for 10000 bonus points. Seems like a pretty good deal for no outlay!

Just wondering though, using the ANZ branded AMEX, am I still eligible for promotions like the Health fund 10000 bonus point sign up?

Welcome to AFF :D

Only Amex issued cards are eligible:
This Bonus Points offer is valid for transactions made in Australia and charged to an Australian dollar American Express Card ("Eligible Card"). David Jones American Express Cards and Cards not issued by American Express are excluded from this promotion

Seems like a pretty good deal for no outlay!

"You'll earn 1 point for every $1 spent using your ANZ Frequent Flyer American Express card and 1 point for every $4 spent using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Visa card."

Why would you use this visa card...? $4 per point...? whats the point of having a card like this...?:confused::confused:

I have a suspicion about this and other really poor performing visa cards which the banks are putting out paired with Amex. The thought occurs that they really want you to use Amex and are paid by Amex to promote their card - however, like consumers, banks know that Amex has a way to go til its accepted everywhere thus the visa.
Customers won't be caught short not being able to pay for things, call centres won't be deluged with angry calls.

The bank knows that people who care about such things will always use the Amex when they can, and that serves the bank well, it will presumably also increase, over time, the acceptability of Amex, and at 1 point per dollar is on par with the bulk of other credit cards.

I'd say its a definite strategy.

after having this card for 12 months, with the 16k sign on points, today I call to see if I have earnt an annual fee waiver for the next 12 months, first customer service officer said that the fee was not negotiable, after 20 seconds of discussion I then requested to be put through to cancellations.... Some questions to verify who I am then the question why I would like to cancel this card, to which my answer was that I did not see to point paying for this card when I can apply for another amex card (Discovery amex) for no annual charge.

I was then given two options for ANZ to keep me as a customer: -
  1. $55 discount on the annual fee
  2. 5,000 QFF (annual fee still $95) QFF to post 2,500 immediately, then another 2,500 on two months time.

I'm still undecided if I should keep this card, but just putting my experience up here for others to know what is on offer for when they call up.

Is this card worth keeping with either of the two options above, for me I guess the 5,000 QFF is more valuable than the discount offered since I would be using them hopefully on yet another JASA :D

I rang to cancel mine ( had the AMEX as well). I was offered renewal at $ 49. Told them "No thanks, the points earning capacity of the card is not good at 1 for every $ 2 and I had taken up the offer of the Jetstar Mastercard".
If enough people tell them, their earn rate is patetic they might get the message...........but I doubt it....... ditch it for either the Woolioed EDR MCARD or the Jetstar MCARD both at 1:1.
It's not worth having these lousy points earning cards current as it only affects your ability to get the next good offer that comes along when they ask how much your total credit limits are.
I have always asked for a smaller rather than larger limit and just keep topping up through the month so overall my credit limits are not perceived to be huge and cause them to decline the next application.

I agree, but a 1:1 earn on amex for less than $50 per year is not that bad really is it...? Even the Qantas EDR Credit Card comes at a cost higher at $89, unless you get that waived like I did...

Sure this card is not the best but with a discounted annual fee it may be ok, Plus some of the partner offers I get 2 points per $1, Including Qantas as many other cards, however this cards does have more partners than some of the others out there... this card does still have some "value" I think if you can get the annual fee lowered anyway, well thats what I'm thinking anyway, I still need a few different types of cards in my pocket on the off chance that EDR cancel my card for business use of their card

All said, this card is not as good as the Qantas Discovery Amex at $0 p.a and a 7,500 QFF conditional sign up bonus, however me being a sole trader, Amex don't like me

I had this card, got the 20K and paid the 95$. At $95 for 5K points I wouldn't keep it as its above my own threshold for buying points.

I remember when I went to cancel, to ANZ's credit they did try pretty hard to keep me as a customer, including waiving fee's, refunding last years fee, free upgrade to Plat, etc, etc. So, kudos to them for at least trying. By comparison the CBA, after more than 10 years of a business relationship, essentially told me to not let the kitchen door hit me in the cough on the way out (hehe) when I cancelled my co-branded cards with them.

Anyway, I found the ANZ card a good earner with decent partners who actually paid up, points wise, but by the time I cancelled the card I had the EDR CC which offered the same earn with better terms and was cheaper.

44d interest free cards, like the ANZ's drive me bonkers. Also, at the time, the ANZ web site was down more then it was up so I couldn't manage the thing in a way that suited me. I never used the attached VISA even once. Ultimately, I had to lose a card to ensure success with Amex proper, as I'd failed to entice them the year before, this was one that fell on the block.

Yes, I know. This put the fear of god into me when I started reading about it. I've never had a card cancelled in my life ... and never even considered the possibility.

So, a wake-up call later (the related posts here on AFF), I now always carry two MC/VISA type cards from different banks as well as two Amex cards, one CC and one charge ... though I imagine if Amex get annoyed for any reason I'll probably lose access to both (??!!) Even considering a Diners as a decent earning backup in case my Amex relationship ever goes south.

I've just checked my ANZ Rewards Visa / Amex account and was surprised (and pleased, of course) to see that 20,000 bonus points were added on 11 June. Looking the gift horse in the mouth, I'd quite like to work out how this favour came my way.

I did add an Amex card to the existing Visa account a couple of months ago (should have done so earlier), and have also signed up fairly recently for a Woolworths Everyday Rewards card, but EDR wanted my QFF number and should have had no way of knowing my ANZ card details. When I have enough I plan to convert the EDR QFF points to gift cards. As I fly SQ almost exclusively, I prefer to amass points in the ANZ account for eventual transfer to KrisFlyer (despite the woeful transfer rate).

Any ideas why ANZ may have given me this bonus? Of course, I could ask them, but the risk is that they might discover they made a mistake.
