Hey there all,

This year I get "home" flying back on Christmas Day. Do QF28 from SCL to SYD, arriving 5:45pm, then up to BNE on QF558, leaving SYD 20:30 hrs and arriving BNE 21:00 hrs. Barring traffic hiccups, will drive into my driveway about 11pm.

Anyone else suffer this sort of thing?

Actually, despite failing to spend the day with my family, I have quite a few times had to fly on birthdays and Christmases. Fun trips :)

Commiserations. I think I saw JB747 say he was flying LAX-SYD this 24th Dec, arrives 26th, so loses Christmas Day entirely.

Boxing day for me... I have done short flights on Christmas day previously.

Ha! I get that. I once missed my whole birthday doing that same route. Maybe that makes me a year younger than I thought??

This is MrP’s argument with me. He missed a birthday and he suggests that makes him younger than me.
Boxing Day for us.

Flying on Boxing day here.

Once got to celebrate my birthday twice flying SYD - HNL. Flight must have left mid-evening the day before my birthday. Ticked over and celebrate on my flight. Then got to celebrate again the following day in Kauai.

I actually flew JFK-LHR on Christmas day last year... And I got caught by the no public transport (at all) operating on Christmas day issue in London. Luckily I was staying in 'very' West London and was able to get a Uber to my accommodation at a less extortionate price.

On the QF28 flight will be part by night over (close) to the South Pole - maybe I will get to see Santa? :O

I flew QF28 on Xmas Day a few years ago by accident.

I'd got back to Ushuaia from Antarctica on a Friday before Xmas Day on the following Wednesday to find that my AR flight to BA had been disrupted by ATC controllers' industrial action. I was due to fly to BA, overnight there and connect across the SCL and on to SYD and PER on the Saturday.

That evaporated and the Monday QF28 was chockers. Decided to take no further risks in Argentina, and got over to SCL ASAP and cooled my heels there for a couple of days. Would much rather have stayed in BA than SCL but didn't want to risk getting stuck there by more wildcat action.

Got back to PER Boxing Day evening IIRC.

I flew VA PER-SYD last year in "The Business" on Christmas day lunch/afternoon flight - it was a good atmosphere (some decoration around the plane interior), and was provided roast turkey as the meal and then a mince pie and coffee later on in the flight. As soon as I had taken the last sip of my drink I was met with "would you like another one Sir?", and when I said "yes please", they replied with "great, as I already poured you another glass" and my empty was immediately swapped out with the drink they were carrying on the tray :D.

Christmas Eve for me. I considered the 25th quite strongly, but as my parents fly out on Christmas night, it seemed wise to have some family time on the day itself. Looking forward to the flights (and Christmas!)

For me it would be nice to be flying on Xmas day, but unfortunately for me it is that other pleasurable thing (not).....working.....and no overtime for me either

Christmas Eve for us, only domestic QF. Last year there were 3 pax in the lounge dressed as elves - it’s an interesting, fun and potentially frustrating time to fly :) I would like to do a long haul J/F for Christmas Day one year.

Domestic flights but we started our sector runs on Christmas day a few years ago, it was fun but nothing really special onboard but there was an marriage proposal at the rear of the plane once.

We've done it for 3 or 4 Christmases now but this year we're leaving earlier in the week for a longer trip. First year we flew to Hobart for lunch. Fish & Chips on the wharf, relaxing in the sun, no other family obligations was great.

I did expect people at the airport to be happier but overwhelmingly, it seemed the masses are not. When doing Christmas Day flights, we hit the Lindt outleft a few days before and hand out lots of boxes of chocs to staff.

Last year in the VA Sydney lounge, they had massages :)

I flew on Christmas Day for several years when I had a small retail business and Christmas Eve was the busiest day of the year. That meant I arrived at LHR early on Boxing Day when public transport started up again.

I hated the way QF crew would wear 'Santa' hats and go up and down the aisles saying "Ho, ho, ho!". And on the SQ-LHR leg I was offered "char kee" which sounded like an Asian dish I didn't know, but turned out to be turky yet again.
