.... When doing Christmas Day flights, we hit the Lindt outleft a few days before and hand out lots of boxes of chocs to staff.....

Great idea!

Does anyone know roughly how many staff there are on a QF 747, and on a 737?

Dont forget the pilots... and check in staff, lounge staff, gate staff :)

First year, one of the pilots said in 20yrs of flying it was the first time a pax had given him something.

Christmas Eve for us, only domestic QF. Last year there were 3 pax in the lounge dressed as elves - it’s an interesting, fun and potentially frustrating time to fly :) I would like to do a long haul J/F for Christmas Day one year.

Me too. Heading to NZ Xmas eve from SYD

I regularly fly on boxing day. Its my change over day between families. I generally refuse to fly on Christmas day unless its evening overnight departure. I dont care how much cheaper it is.

Last year we flew to Singapore on Boxing Day and the hand luggage was filled with boxes of Lindt chocolates. Gave them to check in staff, club staff and then several to the crew. I was really surprised how excited they were to receive them.

I'd rather be traveling somewhere at that time of year then at work or at home.
The only good thing about being home at that time of year is the public holiday penalty rates (assuming work isn't being cheap and gives people the day off or cuts their working hours).

I'm doing PER-DXB-JFK on EK in F on Xmas day. Got the 10.30pm departure, so have time to spend the day/lunch with family.

Probably flying after a fizzy family brunch on Chrissy morning

Christmas day dom connecting to int on separate OW tickets...sigh..i wonder if qf checkin staff will bend rules for me on christmas day and do through check of bags? :D fingers crossed

Using seatguru, I see about 16 crew seats - add to that 3 pilots (is that what there would be on a 14 hr flight??)

I have never flown on Christmas Day, but in my past life in Customs I worked it a few times at Perth Airport in the 1970's - both day and night shifts. The pax loadings were usually only about 50% of normal so it was a fairly relaxed day.

The last few days just before Christmas were very busy. Loads started picking up again after New Years Day.

When I finished Uni I applied for Customs, but they were in a "downsizing" phase :)

I joined in 1972, so went through a number of "downsizing" phases. And a couple of "upsizing" ones, especially around GST introduction time when the Government threw money and staff at any suggestion of problems. Even though it was much, much easier to administer than the old Sales Tax regime, which was basically an optional payment system for any sharp operator..

Luckily, I retired before it was decimated by the Border Force phase.

14 hour 747 flight would have four pilots at least. Captain, FO and two SOs. Normal 737 would be two pilots, captain and FO.

Myself and Mrs 340 flew QF ADL-MEL-AKL on Christmas Day in 2012. Had a good time: QF MEL F was quiet, had a leisurely lunch and we both got spa treatments. Would easily do it again.

I think it was last year that VA gave everyone on the LAX Dec 24th flight a Velocity tier upgrade as they missed Christmas.

If you were WP, you got a bucket of points by memory.

Do Qantas do anything for pax on Christmas day? once I saw a video of gifts coming out on the luggage pickup conveyor for all the pax on a Dom flight.
