I knew it wasn't the Sydney etc but what threw me was that the Pioneer in many reports was a light cruiser built in the UK.
That second picture of yours does mean it is the Hobart.

And that is basically the end.The next week I was on call and during this week this is the first day iy hasn't rained. The forecast though is for rain over the next 6 days.
Maybe a report of the trip back to the dark side on Saturday - yes I have been told by some Tasmanians that I come from the dark side.It is Plan B as the MCY flights have been cancelled so a VA direct flight LST-BNE.Already have my green QLD pass.

Found out today I will be back for a final 2.5 - 3.5 month contract. If I do the 3'5 month stay it means over 2020/21 I will have spent 15.5 months in Tassie.Definitely one of the lucky ones.

The shy one often dived and hid under this log.

You can certainly understand why anyone e going back to England and trying to describe our wildlife would be met with incredulity!

Fascinating stuff about Bass & Flinders.

Bass a surgeon at age 18 and Flinders training as one at age 14 . What was wrong with you @drron? 🤨😜

Flinders did a lot of roaming around the SW coast as well.
We used to have a holiday house at Flinders, on the Mornington Peninsula - the house was in Bass St. A new house was built further up the street and the new people put up their street number and the name "Aswarby". The owner was astonished when I knew the name. At high school our houses were Bass, Collins, Flinders & Murray and I'm afraid after all this time "Aswarby" is about the only info I've retained.

The Beacy gold mine was responsible for many of the swank houses in Launceston that you admire drron (but you knew that). The wealth even trickled down south a bit.

The story behind the rescue of the trapped miners in 2006 is a lot more heroic than generally known, but unfortunately probably won't come out for a long time due to legalities involved ...

On Saturday morning off to LST.It was pretty deserted.

Maybe this was why.

Typical Launceston winter weekend weather.

Decided to have an early lunch as I doubted the new VA would offer anything. Here is the checkin for all the terminal businesses in LST.

I knew this as we had met the manager of the LST concessions earlier in the year at Saffire. And the chicken caesar salad wrap was certainly better than anything offered on board.

As I walked to the rubbish bin after my lunch I saw this.

How could I have missed it before.Turns out it was placed here a week after I last left LST.Miss Flinders which operated mainly in Northern Tasmania. Her history is recorded.

Glad to see our bird arrive. The Brisbane Lions had come down. They needn't have worried as Hawthorn did a number on them the next day. 20210731_113807.JPG .

Quite a few priority borders but when i arrived at my seat I had a row of 3 to myself.None of those did.VA should wash their windows a little better though. The view from my seat.

And off we go.
DSC06264.JPG .

Looking skywards I didn't think the window seat was going to be that good today.

But had reasonable views after take off.

Arrived 90 minutes before lockdown commenced but at least it was 10C warmer than Launceston.Down to the Carousel and about 6 bags came out.The fellow next to me collected 2 and I recognised him as being in J when i boarded.a couple of minutes wait and the rest of the bags started arriving.Mine were number 4 and 6.VA RKWIA.
Then out to meet the beautiful mrsdrron and the very slow drive back to the Sunshine Coast.Obviously a lot of people trying to beat lockdown.

And that is definitely the end. However I will be back in Launceston at the end of the month hopefully with no impediment due to Covid.
