Hi anyone had any luck getting full refund of the annual fee when threatening to cancel the card.

I think it's $2500 worth of points isn't it, not $2K?

Renewal date for me is next month so I called to cancel the card today.
Operator asked me why and I told her due to points capping, which she definitely knew about.
As I am a great customer (her words!), she waived the fee for this year.
I guess 2000 points a month on the card is OK for the next 12 months.
I wonder if they will notice the drop in spend on the card from 30k to 2k per month?

any recent fee waivers? i assume a lot of people will be cancelling their cards around this time...

Apply for and got the HSBC Qantas Visa card to replace the WoW Card, arrived and active it today, moved all my billers over to the new card, and went out the local Fish & Chip shop, only to discover NO VISA PAYWAVE. Bugger!!!!!!

About 90% of my transactions ($5k per month) spend is PayWave, What a huge oversight, they have the technology (they support PayPass on their MasterCard Debit cards) but their call centre says they are still thinking about it.

So when I rang and cancel the WoW card and explained the fee and capping as my reasons for leaving they offered to waive the fee for this year. So I thought, I'll keep the WoW card for a year in my wallet for PayWave transactions, and use the HSBC for online payments leaving it home.

So HSBC has got a year to sort it out.

But in short, YES WoW are falling over themselves to waive fees.

Got a call last week asking why I hadn't activated my new Visa card yet. I told them I wasn't happy about the sneaky increase in the annual fee to $139. They waived it for the first year. 2000 bonus points, happy days

I shall remember that one. Was going to ditch, but could be useful if its free for another year...

Yes same for me
Important to note though they said they still had to charge for the supplementary card, so I cancelled that one

Well, the last laugh may be with MacQuarie bank.
Despite a commitment to waive the $139 annual fee to keep the card another year , I have been charged in the current statement.
I have emailed them but no response as yet.
You might want to check your own.

Same happened to me. If you call them, they will sort out, but is it annoying.

Cancelled. Hard sell to keep including annual fee waiver, but u just don't need the credit and open accounts. Now to cancel ANZ.

Cancelled card. Offered fee waiver but still declined it. Would have to go through the same cr@p again next year.
Also cc limit was way too small - only 9k. One of big 4 offered 48k straight up.

The operator today clearly did not want to lose another customer going into a preset spiel about the card benefits and then wanting to know which cards being used as an alternative. Quickly agreed to waive the fee though a pain only for one year.
Still a handy low fee back up card for the unavoidable spend.

I had the same. OK - maybe for a year. But I want to see how they will react one year from now when the same line gets played. If they play ball, all sweet, if not - see ya!
