Thank you for posting.

I made a quick search of local restaurants from the list of participating businesses and saw at least one that I know applies a surcharge for using Amex. Anyway as my Plat Edge does not have a chip until it is renewed in 2015 I doubt I could use it at said restaurant.

Any Amex without a chip that does not have a PIN should still be fine to sign with. Not all merchants will have updated terminals by today anyway (despite the publicity). In any event, the updated approach still requires terminals to permit signing for all sorts of cards that aren't compatible with PIN for the terminal (don't have one, different chip standard etc). Overseas cards will largely be in this situation.

Currently, there are terminals (well last week anyway) which require signature even though the Amex has a chip and PIN. Put the card in, enter the PIN, still comes back with signature required.

I am expecting issues from ignorant sales staff who have been brainwashed into thinking no one is allowed to sign any more.

I emailed Amex a month ago and asked. Their response was as you indicated, the card would still be accepted up until it's replacement date in 2015. However, with all the publicity today I do expect issues with brainwashed sales staff....

Ooh. Should get 20 packs of medication... Same price everywhere and no bulk discounts under the pbs, so $100 off (2 cards) will be nice.

Time to ask for some reg 24 scripts- for your "planned 6 month holiday"... ;)

That is what I thought with last promotion but boy was I wrong.

You would think that 30 x 20mg Pantoprazole tablets should be the same price in all pharmacies? Nope. Paid ~$7 more at a pharmacy I will never use again which was a sizeable chunk of the $10 cashback. Stupid part was I wasted over an hour getting there and back from work.

Pantoprazole has generics so will vary in price. Bigger chains will often be cheaper for these. Medications that end up at the max pbs co-pay (around $38 now?) will be the same everywhere. As meds come off patent you can sometimes get a generic that is cheaper.

Unfortunately for me, this promotion will be a fizzer in my area. The cafes that participated in the previous promotion aren't showing up this time around. :(

Plus the list is unreliable. I know that Coco Monde has not accepted Amex for a while, so I'm not confident of any others accepting it.

Agree that the list is unreliable.
Though got the statement credit yesterday for a place not listed in their list.

Despite the T&Cs stating "Online purchases are not eligible " I have just received a credit for such. It was billed online directly and not through PayPal (which I doubt would trigger a credit but happen to be proven wrong). Anybody else had success with online purchases from Small businesses?

The AMEX app isn't correct, anyway. There's a shop mentioned in the app, not far from me, that closed down last year. So the whole thing's a bit vague.

There are definitely errors in the lists. My local pharmacy, despite being listed, has a sticker on their card machine saying "No AMEX"!!!

I'm sure I'll manage to score a couple of credits though. I have essentially knocked $100 off my annual fee so far with statement credits.
