AMEX rejection

Why do you assume it is adverse entries regarding defaults? I can tell you it is 100% churning. The information they are basing it on is from your credit report (where else would they get it from). I think that is consistent which what they are saying.

What exactly do you want them to else to tell you? Are you not intending to cancel this card before the next annual fee? You think they should have to approve that?
Agree - when I got my (now long binned) letter a few weeks ago, it was phrased fairly generically (something like 'we couldn't approve you based on your credit file').

In my case, I had a stack of enquiries in 2024 from churning and a couple of closures in 2025 so am patiently waiting for the 2024 enquiries to drop off before applying again.

I'd suggest that, if wanting to play 'the game', Amex is no longer a viable contender...

That Jaz person has even said Amex are identifying churners. They also said applications are considered based on a variety of factors.

From what I can tell he's held Amex cards in the past, and clearly closed them. Amex would see this. They'd also see the other applications for cards.

It paints a picture of someone who is churning and/or making excessive credit applications in a short period.

As I said in my previous post: he's just butthurt they said no.

In a forum much about 'working the system' @Dr Ralph I think you play this churning game the hardest and while I've never churned, I admire you going right up to find the very limits - do keep reporting back :)

Others may strongly disagree but I don't think it's necessary to get mean about it, I'm confident Amex is able to look after itself imho

Nah

I've no issue with people doing what they can to maximise benefits and such. But there is a point where it becomes stupid and pointless - and Dr Ralph's case is one such example.

It wouldn't surprise me if he posts in a few months all "I AM TRIUMPHANT!". Which will likely be complete bullshit and fabricated so he can save face.

Hard disagree.

Issuers have marketing budgets (sometimes part funded by airlines but same point applies). They can waste this on paying churners to churn, or use it to fund more value for "normal" cardmembers.

Churn all you want, but you're just claiming more than your fair share. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that selfishly maximising loopholes just makes it harder for everyone else.

The fact most people don't act this way is why society, in general, tends to work.

Anyone have a theory on the extent of overlap between serial churners and people that don't return their shopping trolleys to the bay in the carpark?
