Amex Platinum Edge Card, with 20000 joining bonus (valid to March 2011)

I am looking at moving across to this Edge card. One of the statements in the on-line application is
Note: Membership Rewards points will not be transferred to your new Platinum Edge Credit Card.
Obviously I don't want to loose my points.
2 calls to Amex have left me none the wiser. How do I keep/ transfer my current points? Given the number of people in this discussion transferring to the new card this has not been a problem.
Would appreciate some advice on keeping my points.

I changed to the Edge card from the Qantas Ultimate card but have a corporate charge card as well with Membership Rewards. They are two different MR schemes though and I retain my points in the "New Corporate Ascent" program for as long as I want to pay the fee. I did enquire about merging the two and while it was possible, they would still charge the rewards fee to have the corporate card earning to the "Ascent" program. As soon as I get the corporate ascent balance back to something transferable I'll close it.

I transferred to the Edge from the original Plat CC. It was painless. I applied online to get the 20,000 bonus points. Contacted Amex about a week later and they said it had been approved and the card was being sent out.

The new card essentially just replaced my existing card. Membership rewards was simply linked from the old card to the new card. Balance was transferred over. Same spending limit.

Just waiting for the 20,000 bonus points now. Anybody got them yet?

I applied for the Edge card back in November. Initially called to ask them a couple of questions and they convinced me to make my application over the phone. Haven't received my 20000 points yet and now I'm concerned that over-the-phone applications void the bonus. I have called but the operation was very vague about when and if I would get them.

I called to book my flight this week and asked about the bonus points. They checked my eligibility and said that everything looked correct. Was told they'll appear after 31 March.

Thanks for the welcome and comments. I rang Amex again and the advice was to apply for the edge on line then ring them to make sure the points were transferred.

Just had to call Amex and asked them about the 20,000 bonus pts.

The lady I spoke to (Janet) said that it should be a maxium 8 weeks for my first $500 spend which would be end of this month. She said to call back if not posted by then and will get the marketing team to look into it. I can see me having to ring!

However I must say the phone service on Amex is fantastic, a real pleasure to deal with.

Well, it has been 13 weeks since our $500 spend and no bonus, so I wouldn't hold your breath. According to the T&Cs they should have credited by now.

Will phone in the next couple of days but expect to be told it is now 8-10 weeks after the end of the promo. Will let you know how it goes.

I have been looking at changing to the Amex Platinum Edge card. Had a look at the free flight destinations from Hobart and only have a choice of Melbourne or Canberra. Compared to the other capital cities I think that is unfair. I suppose I could pay for Hobart/Melbourne and take the free flight from there but will ponder some more.

Saw a very poor review on the travel insurance for the card on the Australian Business traveller site.

Well their insurance is poor, and I definitely do not bothered to use it. However, for me who constantly do SYD-ADL runs, it is a right card for me because I am getting the ticket free anyway, and definitely better to pay the $149 annual fee than buying the ticket.

I finally got the new edge card without any problems and within a coupe of days of my application. The problem started when I followed up on the situation with the reward points. The card services area continued to say that I had to use my points or loose them. Finally got onto the membership rewards area who sorted this out and they have 'linked' the old and new points.

I now have 2 cards with separate limits. I am not sure what will happen if I try to cancel the first card. I will leave that for another day!

evaret as long as your cards are "linked" for points then your points are safe when you cancel your old card.

I know some people have been told the points won't post until after end March, but we didn't want to wait only to be told we were not registered (has happened to us before). Then we would have to go through the process of faxing proof etc...more delays.

Phoned Amex Rewards today. Our $500 spend was achieved last November so it is well past the 10 week posting period. Were told this would be escalated and we were given a case number for follow-up. We were told it could take up to 14 business days for this to be rectified.

This doesn't throw much light on things, but at least they didn't deny the points are owed. We now have a reference in the system to get this investigated and the points posted.

Will update as soon as our points post.

Thanks for keeping us posted Snufl. I'll be calling Amex today and putting the pressure on as last time I spoke with them they said they would be posted by end of February and I qualified for the pts in November.
