OOL stormsNot sure what went on with that WSI-OOL that ended up in NTL.

Most of those "countless destinations" are no doubt connections thanks to QR and SQ, with second place to FJ and NZ.Alright so signage and architecture on the way from security to the gates. There is a big cafe due to open here. A large relay store which has a not terrible meal deal (drink sandwich and snack for $16 I think) and then a smaller cafe in the gate area, which I didn’t pay a huge amount of attention to View attachment 528810View attachment 528811View attachment 528812View attachment 528813View attachment 528814View attachment 528815View attachment 528816View attachment 528817View attachment 528818

Plenty of non-SYD based AFF’rs here hoping for exactly that - so they can bypass the SYD D<->I transfer pain point. One thing that seems certain for now is WSI is an endpoint and not so much a connecting gateway.
MEL is my connecting airport of choice but yes it seems like WSI would be an excellent place to connect. However other than SQ and NZ, sort of (and maybe JQ/QF to QR except probably not), there isn’t a lot of sensible connections on offer tbh. … WSI is an endpoint …

Looking at the Flight Radar playback, it pushed back at 2138 but returned to the gate after lining up on the runway.Looks like they need a crew for the last Melbourne flight, just added a further hour to the departure.
Western Sydney and Sydney or Kingsford Smith. So what's everyone gonna call the two Sydney airports?
Where do you think the airport is? It's 20 minutes drive to Liverpool, hotel such as Mercure, Meriton etc are all available in that area and quite goodQR might be able to score on VA (and maybe QF connections to a lesser extent), same with SQ. (Surely it's possible to ticket arbitrarily a VA and QR or SQ flight on the same ticket - award seats?).
I think people would settle for a non-protected connection, because it would still be the same building. I wouldn't risk it myself at, say, 90 minutes (I'd go at least 2 h 30 m), but overall people will think it more palatable than attempting the same stunt at Mascot.
But until those domestic and international connections, whether intentional or otherwise, appear, it's mostly an endpoint airport. I think there's an airport hotel being considered for WSI? If not, it's definitely not somewhere you'd be able to overnight easily. Accommodation for IRROPs will be most interesting (of course, no one is wishing that for WSI in the early days, or at all); crew rest accommodation likewise (for those crews that can't do immediate turnarounds).
Agree think Sydney and Western Sydney will be most common. Some might use Mascot and Badgerys. Don't see much usage of Kingsford Smith and Nancy-Bird Walton.
Yep, and about the same to Penrith which also has decent accommodation.Where do you think the airport is? It's 20 minutes drive to Liverpool, hotel such as Mercure, Meriton etc are all available in that area and quite good
I’ll probably just stick with Badgerys Creek. That’s where it’s located anyway.Anyone maybe for "Badgery's" …
The airports address is actually Luddenham and the airport is located in both Luddenham and Badgerys CreekI’ll probably just stick with Badgerys Creek. That’s where it’s located anyway.
Yeah. In both, but Luddenham sounds a bit ‘off’.The airports address is actually Luddenham and the airport is located in both Luddenham and Badgerys Creek
You forgot “Nancy Bird Walton” is the full name of WSI.So what's everyone gonna call the two Sydney airports?
Tokyo has Narita and Haneda. London has Heathrow, Gatwick, etc.. New York - LaGuardia, JFK (no one says John F Kennedy; some may say Kennedy) and Newark (some might say Liberty). Kuala Lumpur has KLIA (for the one in Sepang) and Subang. Melbourne has Avalon (if that can be called Melbourne) and Tulla (or Tullamarine).
Now us "geeks" will just go WSI and SYD, i.e. "double you, ess, eye", not "wessi" or worse...... Given the incompetence in the media (or the media struggling to field a good story), seems "Sydney" and "Western Sydney" is going to be too confusing for some (I dread to think what those idiots will do when they read FIDS). "Sydney Kingsford Smith" is the official adopted by airline and booking sites all over, but that's a mouthful to say each time, and SKS just doesn't sound right.
Anyone maybe for "Badgery's" and "Mascot"?
Good point! When flying from NZ to places further afield than SYD, WSI might be a good place to pick up a connecting flight to other destinations in Australia, assuming they exist and are timed right. Currently MEL is my favoured connecting airport.MEL is my connecting airport of choice but yes it seems like WSI would be an excellent place to connect.
