Correct but the deal changed this year so it became a one year only offer. Same with MP Diamond/Centurion.

If per chance you find that in the future you are slipping through the system then that's good fortune only.

I don't believe anything in the offer changed.. it was never said it was ongoing, just it appears to do that.. there also wasn't anything said that it was being held for 1 year only either. i'll find out in July if i get another year with it

Yep :( Got the letter today too.

This was the only benefit which made the card worth having, especially now with the increased fee. I won't be renewing.

I haven't got the letter yet.

My Marco Polo renewed in October this year, so I am pretty happy to have a full year unless they send me a letter to advise otherwise :(

i don't think there is any worries that they will take away what you already have.

And in many ways how could they, when I go in the Qantas Club I show my boarding pass with my QF Number on it and the gold Marco Polo card.

The issue is what happens going forward.

Have you tried accessing the J lounge with Marco Polo Gold (oneworld Sapphire)?

Is Marco Polo Gold supposed to get access to QF J lounge?

Oneworld Sapphire (MP Gold) are supposed to get access to Business lounges as per oneworld benefits - oneworld.

Qantas do not allow this for their own OWS (QF Gold) which I believe they have the right to do because the QF Gold T's & C's override the the OWS T's & C's. I tried it once at Sydney and was denied entry and was told I didn't understand the rules whereas I countered that the staff didn't understand the rules. I think I was in the right but it wasn't a big deal to me so went to the QP.

There are exceptions to those rules.. calling it a business lounge (in the wording) conflicts with what OW rules are.. Calling the J lounge Emerald City or something unrelated to business class would have removed the ambiguity..

Here's more precise answer on CX website:

Frequent Flyer Benefits - Cathay Pacific Australia

I don't know what to make of the very last (no. 3) paragraph:

Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold members, regardless of their oneworld tier status, cannot access Qantas Domestic Business Lounges.

So, if someone was QF Gold as well as, say, highest level with CX or BA, are they not allowed into QF domestic J lounge by reason they are QF Gold members?

That's a bit badly written as you can be CX diamond (OWE) and gain access. it should just read that OWS cannot gain entry.

It seems I was wrong:

  • Gold members are welcome in Business Class* or frequent flyer lounges. (*Does not include Qantas Domestic Business Lounges)

no I haven't but as you have since quoted I don't think it provides access.

In Canberra I am not sure it matters. When I travel with the boss we go in the business lounge and it does have a bit better food but most of the rest of it is the same.

I have never seen the new QF lounge in CBR anywhere near full. It is probably more than 50% the size of the Sydney one and about 10% of the flights.

I have accessed the J lounge in Sydney International with the MPG and an economy Qantas ticket.

I have been unable to access the J lounge in Canberra with MPG and an economy domestic ticket.

Eaxctly. This was enforced back when I had MPG for domestic Qantas flights.

I could gain access to the QC, but not to the J Lounge.

Am away form home, will post on the weekend :(

That would be great. When was your MPG supposed to expire? My Amex renewal is up this month and if I am going to lose MPG as another lost benefit of Amex, it will definitely be adios Amex from me!

Got my new card in the mail today with a 12/2014 expiry.

The letter states:
"...and we are delighted to renew it for another year. This is an exclusive benefit offered to you as a Platinum Cardmember."

However, nothing in there mention this is the last freebie they will hand out or what club sectors/mileage I need to rack up in order to requalify next year. Will post a pic of the letter in just a tick.

EDIT: here's the letter I've got and no mentions of the 20 flights re-qualify either

Is this 20 flights thing official?

I got a letter saying that I just need 30k miles by Nov 2014 to requalify MPO GL which seems much easier than 20 flights.

Although I might be in a special boat because I started this period off as a fake DM (Centurion) which was supposed to be valid until around mid way 2014 before I downgraded to the Plat charge and they also downgraded me in MPO while extending the expiry until Nov 2014.
