amex plat charge cancelled =[

Amex's stupid policy. The $9000 for 900k points is no bargain and I would love everyone to do it if I own Amex. Those points cost them a lot less than $9k.

Years ago I overpaid my amex account and got suspended.

The card company has policies; no one is forced to take out a debt card or enter a merchant agreement but if doing so have to be prepared to follow the rules. If not liking the rules, then don't sign up

very true. that's why I am waiting to use my 2 free flights and cancel the card.

By the way does everyone read the terms & conditions for all their credit cards, insurance policies, car parking tickets, electricity provider contracts, etc? I don't as I do not have enough free time.

Does anyone know what the situation is if you use visa/mastercard on your own merchant facility? as cant see where this is not allowed.

Credit cards? Is that a no brainer? Of course I do!

Travel insurance? You bet! Worse thing is that you buy a policy then when you want to use it you get curtailed because you forgot to take into consideration that clause you later were pointed out in the PDS.

I don't see how the T&Cs on the back of parking ticket wouldn't take you 30 seconds to 2 minutes to read.

You may not have the time and people may not read them anyway but those that accept a contract without reading the terms do so at their own risk.

I'm sorry, but not having enough free time to read through a contract which could potentially cost you thousands of dollars sounds like a pretty pathetic excuse to me.

13. Card Transactions which are Not Valid

g) it is a Credit Card Transaction and: (i) it is not for the supply of goods or services to a genuine customer; or (ii) it is for cash out on a credit card account or includes cash out on a credit card account; or (iii) it represents a transfer of funds, not the supply of goods or services.

I think it would be in violation of T&C and will result in losing the facility.

5.1
A transaction is invalid when:
a) it is illegal or prohibited; or
b) the card was not valid at the time
of the transaction; or
c) the sales receipt has been altered
without cardholder’s authority; or
d) the cardholder did not participate in
or authorise the transaction; or
e) it was processed to your own
credit card; or
f) the amount of the transaction
receipt is greater than your floor
limit and you did not get an
authorisation; or
g) you have breached a term of this
agreement; or
h) authorisation for the transaction
was declined for any reason; or
i) it represents the refinance of an
existing debt or the collection of a
dishonoured cheque.
5.2

A transaction is unacceptable if a
cardholder disputes liability for the
transaction for any reason.
5.3

You cannot process transactions for
someone else. Not only will you be
liable for any chargebacks, we may
also end your card merchant facility
if you do.

Credit cards? Never, and I have a few of them. Just don't abuse them and pay the minimum amount due on time.

I have read most terms and conditions covering the QFF program. Occasionally I look at what is covered by an insurance policy. Sometimes I read the terms and conditions of an e-ticket. Most times I cannot be bothered with terms and conditions as I do not have the time or the desire.

The problem is, that unless you read it taking into account every known scenario, how do you know if everything is covered. Seems a few things fall threw the cracks. Some of the issues raised on this very forum are about scenarios I had never considered.

True that, but many scenarios can be caught by reading the PDS. Some will force you to think before actually buying the insurance (i.e. perhaps you'd like to switch). The minimum detail like excesses and time limits to action should be perused.

I'd still argue that reading the PDS is "safer" and wiser than not.
