Amex credit checks

Veda would wish that the world worked like that. It is Veda who holds the data, it is Veda who is ultimately responsible.

It works better if you contact AMEX directly, provided that you have genuine grounds that the listing is totally none related to you.

Veda will not change the data unless:
1.You have genuine proof and a valid reason
2. A written document from you to open a case
3. A case to be open for investigation

If you don't contact AMEX as the first point of contact, you basically do not have sufficient proof or a valid reason to open a case (In Veda's point of view).

So why bother Veda unless it is absolutely your last option?! A phone call to AMEX should solve the problem.

PS to OZ mark:
AMEX listed me has a continue account a year ago for david jones card (The old store card) and back dated in 2003. I called DJ & AMEX advised them the account has been closed for a long time. The listing was eventually deleted in 3 weeks.

One of them relates to a David Jones card, which I do have (even if it is a rather tatty old black card). The issue is about the duplicate listings, not about whether they are right or wrong.

I'm due to get another copy of my full report soon (my annual alert dues are up at the end of the month). Will be giving it a thorough read.

I assume it is not a new listing per se, it is a listing stating continuous relationship with AMEX.

They are allow to list "Ongoing relationship" but not "Enquiry and apply"

The ongoing relationship was already listed. They are duplicates of already listed ongoing relationships, with the same dates, reference numbers, etc.

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) Veda Advantage has a responsibility to keep information it holds accurate.

Veda Advantage is merely seeking to lessen its own workload by palming off inquiries to the credit providers.

Veda holds the data, I therefore hold it responsible. It can do the running around. If Veda doesn’t like this then perhaps it should cease to hold such data and get out of that business.

I review my credit file, I refer errors to Veda and if it fails to respond I refer to the Privacy Commissioner. This is how it should be done, this is how I do it, this is what works for me.

I don't mean to sound rude spunkarooney, but you can read the legalese and language, and spin it however you wish. Veda can only do so much, and it is the contractual obligation and responsibility of its customers and users (In this case AMEX) to ensure Veda is provided with correct information.

As I've previously highlighted, Veda's website states in plain English that your first stop must be the credit organisation whom is responsible for the entry in your report. If you do not receive a satisfactory outcome from them, then you can raise it to Veda's investigations group, and to the relevant privacy commissioner if no satisfactory outcome has been achieved.

Suggesting that Veda is palming off responsibility lacks is simply self-serving to your own viewpoint, and lacks any firm grounding in logic or reason.

Instead of wasting time rewriting history and what's been said on the topic, why not spend some time writing a nicely crafted and factual letter/fax/email to AMEX outlining the factual issues giving rise to your assertion they have made an incorrect entry into your credit report. This gives them the opportunity to resolve the situation first, and creates a paper trail.

This paper trail, plus giving them first opportunity to correct means that you've taken all reasonable and practicable steps to resolve the issue with AMEX and still have no solution, you literally send copies to Veda or the relevant privacy commissioner with little to no effort for their escalation and action - and they are more likely and inclined to take up the case.

The simple fact is that Veda is responsible for the personal information it holds. It does not matter how that information was acquired.

Your view has been heard, you've been provided with appropriate information which states clear and indisputable facts. What you choose to do with and if you believe it is entirely your call.

A website of the company in question is hardly an indisputable fact. If they wrote on the site that the moon was made of ritz crackers would not make it so

It is factual that the company holding the information is responsible for its accuracy and they will indeed deal with matters if pushed without the need for the consumer to contact the party listing the details and have done so myself

Got my report today - seems that things relate to a 'Periodic Credit Review' which seem to be happening a lot in the last six months. Amex have done it 4 times!

That is excessive.

I think that they can access your file reasonably. 4 times in 6 months I would consider unreasonable.

I got my file recently too and noticed that the timing of the review is when they offer you a limit increase. Any chance you've had some offers around the time of the checks?

No credit limit increase offers have come my way recently (aside from GE, but they aren't even listed on my credit report)

I need some advice.... changing over my credit cards... got sufficient income... limited, but perfect, credit history... but need to strategise applying for Amex Plat Charge, Qantas Ultimate and Citibank Platinum.

I do have solid *cough bonus point* reasons for wanting to apply for all three but obviously don't want to get denied for applying for three card in quick succession so I don't know what to do!

I would say the best thing to do is to apply for them in the order that you value them the most. And leave a little bit of time between each application. ie. At least wait to receive the card before you apply for the next one.
