Called American Express today to book a Hobart to Sydney flight.
Have been told that I can't book Hobart --> Melbourne --> Sydney, and that I only have the choice of flying directly (HBA-Syd)
Was hoping to fly indirect, as it would mean I don't have to take time off work to fly earlier. In addition to my (faint) hopes of receiving status credits for the flight!

Has this always been the case? Suspect this has only come up with the intro of sabre.

Same here, tried to do slightly cheeky, open-jaw ticket with Amex Comp flight. PER-SYD // ADL-PER... wouldn't let me :(

Agree with Plutonus . Not sure it has been allowed previously.

I think that has always been the case, I recall trying to do the same just after they changed from Qantas to Virgin for the comp flights.

I was directed to the online map thingy that detailed where you can fly from and to.

Something to do with the contract with Virgin, it must have an added cost perhaps, as in 2 sep legs ?
