AMEX Application Process Failures + Contact

That's interesting. I wonder why their CSO asked me to apply for a new card if that was the case. One other factor that I think could be the reason is that they have potentially given me a card with significant credit limit when I already had 2 cards worth half the limit. Now I'm thinking of cancelling the edge and come back sometime later to try my luck again. I'm not sure what complain I'll make even if I did go to AFCA. And if I even stand a chance to win at all.

Nope, but eventually got the card approved by raising a complaint with AFCA. It actually got sorted pretty quickly once I shared the video with them.
Hi there, I am currently having the same situation as you previously had. I also cannot find a number to call them directly to complain. Is it a simple process reaching out to the AFCA ?
Previously I had called the AMEX applications number and she said the overall assessment has been rejected and I said I was only ever asked to submit base salary for information. No email to ask for my payslips etc etc to prove.
I had initially applied for a Qantas amex card but found the Velocity one better suited so I applied for that and called to cancel Qantas. I was told they'd have to review the velocity one manually because I applied for two different cards in the same name in a short period of time.

I earn way above what the requirements would be, i've never owned a credit card before, and I've recently got a car loan since the car was delayed so possibly my previous approval is recorded somewhere but had to be re-approved since I only got the car a few weeks after applying for the credit card. No idea what to do and who to speak to. Any help would be appreciated!

What was the basis for your complaint? Reason I ask is MrsDaver6 is running into similar issues so would like to follow the process you went through.

Technically speaking, my understanding is that AFCA do not have authority to investigate complaints relating to assessment of credit applications and subsequent refusal to provide credit. You'll need to make sure the focus of your complaint is not on the outcome (i.e. credit decline), but the failure of the process (i.e. not that you're unhappy with how they assessed your application, but rather that their systems failed to ensure that they had the appropriate information to conduct a credit assessment).

Hello all,

I've had to abandon an application to Amex because they wouldn't accept the uploads of my payslips. Has anyone else had this issue or similar? If so can you suggest a workaround?

Thanks in advance

I just applied tonight and at the uploading docs stage website went blank whilst they were uploading. I never got an email confirming application so I have no reference number to upload anything else. I rang and they said to call back in the morning. Grhhh. Ant tips on how to handle this I don't want to redo application as that will necessitate another credit enquiry
Edit email with reference number received 8 hours later.

how did you get on? I'm afraid I just gave up after my fifth attempt to get them to accept the copies of my wage slips.

I applied for a Westpac Black credit card last week and was declined by them today. And then, I jumped onto this AMEX platinum card and was approved straight away without having to submit any income documents. It seems that I always have difficulties in dealing with Westpac new cards team although I have two home loans with them

I was really surprised how quick the application process was, didn't have to upload any documents either. Very refreshing after dealing with ANZs demands for specific letters from payroll.

Sorry to hear it's not as straight forwards for people who rely on listing investment incomes though

I had this issue when I applied in January as well.

To their credit, they called me to follow up on the docs about half an hour after the issue happened but I wasn't free to sort it out then, so I called back about 15 minutes later. They gave me an email address to send the docs through too and it was approved over the phone.

I was impressed with how efficient they were in sorting this out. I had the actual card three days later!

I've had the exact same rejection experience with the Qantas Amex Ultimate yesterday. Submitted my application on Wednesday, and by Friday I had the letter saying I was rejected and to check my credit score.

My credit score is >800 and my salary is good.

What I realised while doing the application was there was no back button, so I couldn't actually edit any details if they were incorrect and I forgot to include investment property rental income as I thought they'd have a more explicit box for that.

I called last night but they said the credit review team only works Monday - Friday during business hours. So I'll try and call then to get this turned around!

Do Westpac compulsorily ask for payslips for a cc application ?

Hello all,

I'm new to Australia. At what point can one successfully apply for the Platinum card? Like how many payslips do they need, or is it more about the annual income in general?

Don't want to miss out on points for too long.

Need 2-3 payslips . Besides one needs a credit history . Amez might be different . Did u have an Amex in the country you came from ? You may be able to apply for a GT .

Thanks for an advice. Unfortunately, Amex wasn't available there. I currently have only debit account with Commbank and their credit check tool shows a score of around 820, which I feel isn't too bad. Don't want to spoil the score with unnecessary credit card applications.

Just called Amex to complain about my rejected application and that the form didn't have a back button and didn't require any financial proof to be supplied.

The lady said there was nothing she could do and that applications went through a "robust" review process. I asked multiple times if a human viewed the application. She wouldn't confirm this as "they receive thousands of applications a day".

She said I'd have to reapply in 90 days as once a decision was lodged it was final.

Not even being a USA Amex customer since 2011 with a clean record helped. Yet she thanks me for my loyalty 🙁.

I said I'd have to lodge a complaint with AFCA but she didn't blink.

Sounds like I got a very strict response. Should I try and call them again? She did say they might call me back in 48hrs as she'd noted my complaint down.

I posted further up the thread about the difficulties I was having a couple of months ago with getting Amex to accept copies of my wage slips for my Explorer application. I gave up after numerous attempts and cancelled the application. This week I chanced my arm with a Platinum application. That's $100k minimum earnings, 225k points, loads of juicy extras, all the trimmings and I was accepted within a day, no requirement for wage slips. Totally bizarre (not that I'm complaining!)

Crazy! So the "you cannot reapply for 90 days" comment may be only related to the specific card you applied for?

I called them back yesterday and they said my complaint and review case was still in progress. They said I'd hear back in 48hrs. But I made the point it'd already been 1 week, and they said they'd escalate this.

I also lodged a complaint to AFCA re the form process and the UX issues with it. Haven't heard back yet.
