AMEX Application Process Failures + Contact

I think given their rejection and lots of own experience posts in this thread - I won't be considering AMEX at all moving forward.

100k bonus QFF points is good, but with a high annual fee (even despite a $450 travel credit to "offset") and limited places to spend on - some places accept only Mastercard or VISA, it's probably not worth it.

My BoM card "only" awards 60k bonus QFF points after $3k of eligible spend (same as the Qantas AMEX one), but with a much lower annual fee and most importantly, got approved and wasn't rejected for no good reason.

Mrs sudoer just received her QF Ultimate rejection letter with the same credit reporting line.

She's closed 3 cards in the last 12 months and has one open. 900+ Equifax/Experian, and explicitly requested a 5k limit.

Looks like they're cracking down on the partner's off AFF members 🤣😢

Thought I'd add my experience to here as well.

Applied for an AMEX QF Ultimate and also got a rejection letter with the credit line people have mentioned already here.

I haven't had an AMEX in 4+ years, 1 closed card in the last 12 months and with a score of 1000+.

Probably won't be trying this again until there's evidence the success rate changes overall.

I had the same experience late last year also, I rang up after getting the rejection letter as I had an excellent credit rating etc and I was confused. The lady offered to re-do the application and I even added some additional investment income I hadn't bothered with on the first application and it was still rejected with the same generic letter. I had a hunch it was related to the number of credit cards churned and seeing this thread has reaffirmed that. A shame as my plan was to make this card one I would hold as a base card with a likely redemption into Krisflyer.

Yeah, they do seem to be blocking churners... well, the letter I sent to their official correspondence address still hasn't been responded too. It was sent over 2 months ago.

P2 tried again for the Plat Charge instead of the Ultimate. I thought perhaps Amex might have a different churn tolerance for each card product/line. Also closed the card she had open, but no dice.

Might try again in July when she will be 4/24 and 2/12.

she may have been better off keeping it open, when i called after my rejection they specifically asked if i had opened and closed cards within a very short timeframe.

Wife working part time and only earning $50k was approved for the Plat charge card with no issues. had prob been a few years since her last credit card

Add Mrs NoName to the list of those declined. Rejected for platinum charge. 2 closed in the last year & 3 in the last 2 years. So not a big churner by any means.

Has anyone applied for any of the Amex Business Rewards cards? What was your experience?

I just got a nice sales letter from them in the mail offering 170k QFF. Wouldn't mind applying except I've always shied away from business cards because of the extra financial hoops they make you jump through.

Well I thought the referral offer I put in the referral section was attractive but no one has used it so apparently people agree with you!

Examples like this make it hard to understand. Unless you are prepared to not churn for a year and forgo FF points then it seems it's a waste of time. Even if you did I would still be nervous an application would be declined again. A real shame.

What was the problem you raise with afca? can you be more specific?
I can't remember specifics, but I recall that AFCA cannot get involved where you are simply unhappy with the decision made, so I focussed my argument on the fact that they had insufficient data to make a decision in the first place, and that AMEX had not followed their own practices by basing that decision on my financial situation (expenses/liabilities) as they had not asked for this information.
