its 15k points.. i got mine as soon i hit the minimum spending..

Indeed, normally with AMEX cards it is as soon as the minimum spend it hit and the transaction is no longer pending. Longer than that is unusual I would say, although I'm sure I've seen people wait almost a week (perhaps their transactions were pending for a long time).

This is my rant.

So far I've called amex 5 times odd over time and the responses have been brilliant

Today was typical of the call centers with people with no common sense

I called up about my bonus points and they said you've already got them. I'm like no. Oh they take a few days to update online.
OK. But my Explorer one took 24 hours. When were they posted

Dead silence.

Let me check for you

OH OK. they're getting put on to your account in batches up to 8 weeks later.

OK so when do I get how many.
Well you currently have 12k points so you will get the 3k later.

Ummm. No that's from my spending.

Yes but they're your points that you have. There fore you will get 3k later.

I had explain to her over and over again that bonus points are different to earn points.

But sir you've only spent 4k......

After explaining a few times it got escalated and I got told that it was because I wasn't a new user.

I told them it did not say that on the promo. And it's wrong. And that other people have got it.

So it's now being escalated again.

I can't find the terms and conditions but it t wasn't for non first time users?

So the referral I used gets 10k and I get none????

Hmmmm

I think you are better then this SOPOOR

I know I am.
It just irks me to the end of the world when I get fed a bs story. It really does. If they said. I'm not sure I need to escalate it. Well call you back in 2 days. I'd be happy.

And in 99% of cases there will be no record of them saying your bonus points are credited with in 8 weeks. So I've got to start again and explain the situation

I have edited two posts with inappropriate language (one being a quote of the OP).

If you agree that the language used is inappropriate, but do not feel the need to report the post, you should at the very least not quote the inappropriate language as this makes the clean-up process longer.

Thank you.

  • Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Starpoints (Good for AAdvantage, BA Executive Club, United Airlines transfers) 2:1

Hi,
I just wanted to ask if that was the final ratio for points to AA through SPG. IE do spg do 1:1 to AA

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Amex MR > SPG is 2:1, then SPG > AA will be 1:1 and you get extra 5k miles for each 20k miles..
But another option will be converting SPG > Marriott for 1:3, then Miles + Hotels..

Hi,
I just wanted to ask if that was the final ratio for points to AA through SPG. IE do spg do 1:1 to AA

Assuming you transfer in lots of 20k from SPG to AA, BA and others you'll get a bonus 5k for each transfer. For example if you transfer 40k AMEX MR points you'll end up with 20k SPG points. Then if you transfer these to AA (for example, could be BA etc) you'll end up with 25k AA points.

This gives an effective transfer rate of 0.625 from AMEX -> AA (but you need to transfer from SPG in 20k lots).

Edit:
....
But another option will be converting SPG > Marriott for 1:3, then Miles + Hotels..

Marriott is offering a 20% bonus when transferring United MileagePlus miles, so if you want to transfer to United then going AMEX->SPG->Marriott->United will probably work out better. I think for every other airline straight from SPG is the best bet.

Hope this helps!

On my way to burning through the AMEX suite of cards (though the Edge and Explorer combo may be to good to churn...)

My card arrived last night, registered it this morning and it seems its not linked to my existing Gateway account :p so hopefully the bonus points from using an AFF'ers referral will be coming my way. I have made a small spend and will advise.

Here is my referral for the Edge http://amex.com.au/refer/andresoPga

Hey fellow point hackers.

Thought I'd throw my referral link out there if anyone is kind enough to use it.

Ive had this card for the last 6 years, and by far is the best point earner out there for me;
Earn 3 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at major supermarkets.
Earn 2 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at major petrol stations.
Earn 1 Membership Rewards point per dollar spent on all other purchases excluding utilities, insurance (except those issued by American Express), telecommunication providers and government bodies in Australia where you earn 0.5 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent.

For anyone hoping to get on the supermarket gift card gravy train, this is the card to use. 3 points per $ can really add up. Join up with Amex and your life will be changed. :D

To kick start, there's a sign on bonus of 15K membership rewards (and 10K MR for me as your helpful referrer). Your membership rewards (MR), can go to the frequent flyer program, or hotels etc of your choice.

Sign up before 27 March for the offer and spend a paltry $730 in first 3 months. Please use this link: http://amex.com.au/refer/desirwFLuF. Cheers.

Looking for a great card that can maximise your points return? Me too, and I don't have to look any further than the AMEX Platnium Edge to find such a card. Ok perhaps that is a bit tounge in cheek, but in all seriousness, the Edge is a really great card if you want to enhance (as per the Oxford dictionary) your points earn.

REFERRAL LINK - 15000 bonus points - first year annual fee free!

Sign-on bonuses for the AMEX Edge don't get much better than the current 15,000 bonus points and no annual fee for the first year (save $195) , so if you're interested I'd recommend getting an application in before the current offer closes on the 27th of March 2017.

There has been some comprehensive posts on all the benefits of this card has to offer - look through the thread if you are a detailed minded person that wants that sort of detail. For me I just wanted to highlight the most important benefits I've enjoyed from this card since I first found out about it and applied through a AFF referral link.

In my best effort order of importance the benefits I've most enjoyed from this card are:

1. A great earn rate! 3 points per $ spent at supermarkets and 2 points per $ spent on petrol is a pretty fantastic earn rate! I've looked around at plenty of cards and researched widely here on AFF and elsewhere and I can't beat this card for my spend patterns. It's twice as good as anything else I managed to find. This alone makes this card worthy of consideration
2. $200 annual travel credit. I found the old yearly flights less convenient (I know others loved them - I depended on where you lived), but I've found the new $200 per year travel credit to be easy to use and it essentially makes the card free.
3. Great range of transfer partners. I've used Asia Miles for booking cheap domestic and international awards on Qantas and other OneWorld Carriers. Etihad and Velocity, mainly to supplement my transfers from FlyBuys to book Oz domestic flights. Between Asia Miles, Etihad, Velocity, Singapore Airlines Kris Flyer and Starwood Preferred Guest (for more unusual transfer partners like American Airlines or BA) - the Edge can pool and hold points for transfer to any airline rewards program I've wanted.

There are heaps of strategies I've learned about on these forums to maximise my earn on the Edge card, these include buying gift cards at supermarkets for my other shopping (JB-Hifi, Myer, DJ's etc). Applying for additional cards in my name and my partners (known as Account Cards or A/C cards) - having four cards on my account has allowed me to take maximum advantage of AMEX offers such as small shop and the twice-weekly statement credits. Making good use of these over the last few years has earnt me heaps of extra points and saved a lot of money (one day I should work out what it is worth).

I'd recommend this card to anyone, my partner was very sceptical when I first got into points earning, but now he's travelled at the sharp end of the plane (courtesy to FF points - a lot of which have come from AMEX) I get a lot less sarcastic comments.

If you'd like to apply for the Edge and are kind enough to use my referral link I'll be very thankful. We're planning a Europe trip at the start of next year and are still a few points short so any referral points will be put to good use. For anyone using my link I get 10,000 points under the current AMEX referral program and of course you get 15,000 points and your first year annual fee free (a $195 saving).

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It may be almost April 2017 and most would still be buzzing over the Explorer card by AMEX, BUT let me tell you that this Platinum Edge card is definitely not to be missed especially with it's competitive annual fee + lenient requirements for applicants.

With more retails and merchants accepting AMEX, it almost DOESN'T make sense NOT to have an AMEX card which helps accelerate your goals to achieving that awards flights. From everyday use for grocery shopping ($1 = 3 points) to servos ($1 =2 points), it goes without saying that this AMEX Platinum Edge card has been an essential to many globetrotters especially with its' generous earning ratio. Everyday spend also yields 1:1 earning ratio with the exception of bills & utilities + ATO payments. Not forgetting the potential bonus points that one is capable of earning when they enrol in the Local Champions, demonstrating both gratitude and also true benefits of this Platinum Edge Card.

It really almost is the everyday card for any consumers, regardless of their spending power. Successful applicants using my referral link not only receive an additional 5000 bonus points on top of the standard 10000 points, this Platinum Edge card also comes with annual $200 travel credit, thus outweighing the second (and thereafter) annual fee of $195 easily (+$5 extra!). The travel credit can be used on flights, hotels and tour packages using AMEX's dedicated travel platform to assist you by attentive representatives.

Needless to say, I'd very much be delighted if you truly think that this post helps by applying using the link provided as it not only brings you one step closer to that dream holiday of yours, but it also mine as I will receive a referral bonus of 10,000 points. Afterall, it's all about giving and sharing to all those especially on this forum who's contributed so much.

Just noticed that the offer is still going i.e. No annual fee for the first year (save $195) plus 15,000 Membership Rewards points when you apply for an American Express Platinum Edge Credit Card, are approved and spend $750 in their first 3 months of Card Membership.

However, the bonus points on offer for the person referring has increased to 15,000 points.

Re: PLATINUM EDGE. Now with 15,000 points & $200 Travel Credit

As lang_13 mentioned the bonus for the referrer is up from 10k points to 15k points. Everything else is the same as below.

Wanted to throw my referral link in for the Amex Platinum Edge.

By applying using a referral link you will earn 15,000 points instead of the normal 10,000 points and I will receive 10,000.

The Amex Platinum Edge is a great card, $200 travel credit and with 3 points per $ on Supermarket spend and 2 points per $ at Petrol stations. My favourite use for this card is buying discounted Wish e-Gift Cards at Cashrewards/Everydaygiftcards.com.au (usually 5% off, have physical gift cards as well) saving them to the woolworths app and still getting 3 points per $.

http://amex.com.au/refer/jameshLPCm?CPID=999999366

Amex are so far ahead of everyone else at the moment. Great Sign on Bonuses, Great points earn, Statement Credits, Local Champion, Retention offers, Referral bonuses.

The Amex Platinum Edge with its Ascent Membership Rewards points has become even more valuable with the addition of the Amex Explorer card (my referral link for this card is in the appropriate thread). When combined and points pooled to the Ascent program the Explorer card earns 2 airline points per $!

Here is a tip to anyone signing up for this card to derive even more value from the card. If you find this useful I'd very much appreciate you using my referral link.

It is possible to add yourself as a supplementary card holder, I just did this with Amex. When you add yourself as a supplementary card holder it is called an "Account Card" or "A/C" card. I have one of these on my Gold Charge card as well. I did this with my initials rather than full name to tell the cards apart. There are people on AFF who have had all 4 free supplementaries issued in their own name!

Why would you do this?

1. When I called up to add myself as my first of 4 free supplementary card holder I asked if they were still offering the 5,000 bonus points for adding an additional card holder. The lady went off and checked and said yes that wasn't a problem. These points have already been added to my account and I haven't even used the card yet.
2. One of the best things about Amex at the moment is their Statement Credit offers. I have saved a couple of thousand dollars from the cashbacks this year. Shop small, Harvey Norman, HCF, David Jones, Langtons, Westfield and Myer to name a few. Never hurts to have as many Supplementary cards as possible especially in your own name especially when this card comes with 4 free supplementaries.
3. The reason behind an A/C card is you set up all your direct debits on this card and then keep it safe at home somewhere separate from your other card/wallet. Then if you lose your wallet you don't need to change over all of your direct debits.

There are some great tips on this site on how to get the most out of this card, make sure you subscribe to these threads:

Amex Statement Credits have saved me thousands this year.
http://www.australianfrequentflyer.c...62256-291.html (New [Amex] statement credits)

For when your annual fee is approaching call and ask them "What have you done for me lately?" I got 84,000 points to keep my American Express Gold Charge Card. The annual fee is only $130!!
http://www.australianfrequentflyer.c...-71493-11.html (Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" bonus given thread.)

Hope everyone is able to get some value from the above. Any queries please let me know. Love this site, love this card!
