All International Arrivals into Australia to self isolate for 14 days

Maybe not recalcitrance maybe just stupid.
Today I went to collect my drugs from our pharmac_,the Officeworks to collect an order. Our usual Vietnamese restaurant is 3-400 metres from Officeworks so I picked up some take away.I was standing outside awaiting my order.A guy my age was ordering.standing at least 1.5 metres back were 2 young guys. 2 young girls came in and moved between them. The owner immediately rushed out of the kitchen and called them over.I do hope he gave them the rounds of the kitchen but well done.

I was in the Post Office today. Arrows to mark in and out and crosses to stand on. I was standing on one while the person in front was being served. Apparently my gap was a cue for an older man to walk past me and stand in front. I told him to move Away and wait. He'd been running and was still in his gear. Some people are from another planet. Eejit.

I stayed once at the Ibis and it was ok. Whingers deserve tentland.......
@Toula92122 watch out for those with guns and ammo in your area. I saw the crowd in Marina del Rey lining up outside our local gun store in Washington Blvd.

Oh and apparently the after toilet paper and guns the other thing being hoarded is drugs. We are lucky as we live in a nice suburban neighborhood without too much trouble. Talking about guns, when we were living in Silicon Valley, it was a safe enough neighborhood, never felt threatened, crime figures were not up and we lived in a secure building which required a key fob for entry. A friend who lived in the same building, on the 6th floor, slept with a gun under his bed and 6,000 rounds of ammo in his closet for protection??? Even in a zombie apocalypse where they require a double tap, if you have 3,000 zombies at your door you are not likely to live.

I don't know where you sit on this spectrum, but I respect your apparent faith in the system. I think you should respect those of us that don't trust the system. And when it is all done and dusted, we can see who was right :)

Absolutely there are some things which should prompt us to think where we're heading. Data collection, loss of privacy, loss of rights at the border when we come in (seizing of phones), strip searches of minors by police.

A 14-day quarantine in a 5* hotel isn't on my list.

The isolation rules specifically excluded airline crew...but now I see a number have been detected with the virus. No information on where or how they were infected. I don’t understand how airlines like Qatar are being allowed to operate, or how the UAE airlines could be considering a restart to Oz in the next couple of days.

Selling guns and ammo is an essential service, apparently. 😳

Buying a gun in Oz is a long drawn out affair, so you’ll get yours for the next pandemic.

I guess your friend was a lousy shot. And loading magazines is not something you can do with the zombies at the door.

Have a relative who is QF FA who received a call to tell her a passenger on her last flight from the USA has tested positive for CV. As it was one of the last flight out of the USA I wonder if the passenger knowingly boarded with the infection because they were desperate to get home before the lockdown.

Here's 1 JB

Which is why I never understood the concept of any sort of exemption.

Is the timing for this poor blokes death correct though? The article implies that he caught it on the US trip, but I'd have though he would have had to have caught it somewhat earlier, which means he would have been contagious during that trip.

coughpits are incredibly dirty places.

So apparently 1st suicide in Melbourne as a result of being locked away in a hotel for mandatory quarantine.... to all those that mocked me when I said I had a problem with this issue, and who said things along the lines of being locked away is a "nothing" burger and that people should "get over themselves" and enjoy the 5 star hotel.... any changes of heart? So far, deaths of those locked away in hotels, the score seems to be Coronavirus 0, Suicide 1.

Perhaps you'll be less flippant once the enquiries begin...

Tell that to the dead guy... man so many people are going to be eating their words with regard to this whole corona thing, a pity people have to die to prove a point

There is no shortage of tragedies to go around as a result if this pandemic. I imagine the Coroner will look at the suicide and decide whether the primary cause was isolation in the room or there were other underlying causes.

A close friend of my eldest is a NHS nurse, who brought corona virus home from work, infecting her family. Children ok, husband in hospital. She wishes she had been offered a 5* hotel room to isolate.

Perhaps once you find out the name of the family of the dead guy in custody you can send them a copy? Maybe it will make them feel better?

0/1 is no-where near being correct, and perhaps you'd like to take your own advice about being flippant. And using someone's suicide to score points here is in pretty poor taste, IMO.

Many international carriers still operating. In fact at MEL today, there are 7 international departures and only 5 domestic departures....!! Does this mean the crew are quarantined at nearest hotel (eg. Parkroyal - MEL, Rydges - SYD, Pullman - BNE)? At SIN, foreign crew only permitted at Crowne Plaza at Changi Airport, not allowed to leave rooms until they are departing.

What is the source for this please? I can't find it on any of my usual mainstream news sites.

I'm especially interested in the source for the words 'as a result of' instead of 'while' in mandatory quarantine - fairly significant difference.

If the media are doing their job properly and following guidelines, you should not find any reporting referring to a suicide. The clues might be "health officials are investigating the death of ..." or "a person has passed whilst in mandatory quarantine, although authorities confrim the death was not due to illness caused by the contraction of COVID-19", notably with the lack of reference to specific cause of death and possibly with a reference to the lifeline phone number posted at the end of the story.

The media, rightly, tend to report such matters obliquely, because of the tendency fora report to induce more events.

Here’s one report
.Victoria's state of emergency extended as man dies while in Melbourne hotel quarantine

I can understand frustration at the restrictions. I think we all feel it. These are well intentioned but huge intrusions on public liberties. My own frustration is around the ambiguities and inconsistencies in the iso rules.

There is a website (yes, yet another one!) where people can report what they reckon are unreasonable policing actions around the restrictions.
Policing COVID

I've read quite a few. A lot appear to be ordinary people doing the essential thing - social distancing.
