Interesting thing happened with Alitalia, asked for a status match with Enrich Gold, which they did with a Freccia Alata gold card.......the interesting thing is though that the expiry date on the card is 01/01/0001............does that mean it never expires??:)
Or it did a couple of thousand years ago. :)

Has anyone been successful in arranging the additional card for a friend / family member? It's referred to in the e-mail, but their website is very confusing and refers to a promotional code and voucher..

Must be a benefit of "Freccia Alata Plus" only, didn't get it for the gold match to "Freccia Alata"

Applied on the 23rd of September to match QFF WP.
Checked last night and the status match to Freccia Alata Plus has come through.
Including the extra Freccia Alata Card - now I need to decide who to give that to!
I have not received an email notification - but I have been able to view and download a copy of my new card.
Expiry March 2017.

Also the four "business for you" upgrades can be used for long haul international but it would take two upgrades per sector to go from economy to business.
But that would still allow you use the four coupons to upgrade both sectors of a return flight.
As below:

You can request to upgrade:
  • From Classica - Economy Class to Ottima - Business Class (for medium-haul international flights) using one upgrade.
  • From Classica - Economy Class to Classica Plus - Premium Economy Class (for long-haul international flights) using one upgrade.
  • From Classica Plus - Premium Economy Class to Magnifica - Business Class (for long-haul international flights) using one upgrade.
  • From Classica - Economy Class to Magnifica - Business Class (for long-haul international flights) using two upgrades

Received the Freccia Alata Plus card in the mail today. Very simple letter but contains a link and a code for you to gift Freccia Alata Card to anyone.

If any of you guys have spare Alitalia Freccia Alata card to give away, I'd be happy to receive it:)
3 of us are travelling to and within Europe in the next 12 months and most of the travel would be on Alitalia, so could surely use another card.

I am Gold level but not Platinum so I cannot gift my wife Alitalia Freccia Alata.

If anyone is willing to give Alitalia Freccia Alata to my wife it would be most appreciated!

Those "free" upgrade certs are useless. The whole thing looked too good to be true but I gave it a shot anyway. In order to use them one must book fully Flexi Y fare which works out to be about 5 times higher than standard Y and cost almost as sale J (only checked intra-Europe).

Oh well, there goes my attempts to book flights on Alitalia.

Checked last night and the status match to Freccia Alata Plus has come through.

Sent my match request 15-Sep and had been checking regularly until about 1 week ago. Had sort of resigned myself to it just not coming through and then read this. Have just checked online and I've been granted Freccia Alata Plus through to March 2017.

Regards,

BD

I used my status matched EY Gold and have been matched to Alitalia Freccia Alata. Valid until 31/3/2017. Will be handy for my trip back to Wales next year.

Freccia Alata Plus card received, successfully gifted Freccia Alata to the other half. Took a couple of days to be processed, but everything seemed to work ok.

Pity the upgrades are not so easy to use as the fare class is not so easily found when booking on the AZ www - they basically operate the same way as the VA Platinum comp upgrades.

Booked AZ TXL-FCO-AMS in March 2016, lounge access however basic & additional baggage allowance were the main reason for obtaining status match.

Anyone know what Alitalia are like for redemption availability?

Seems they're having a 60% bonus on purchases at the moment...

This is all I could find:
How (And Why) To Use Alitalia Miles - One Mile at a Time

Its very interesting to have a non-Americas buy miles option, especially in Skyteam. While ST is usually airlines I would avoid, there are lots of options out of Australia.

The standard cost per mile is EUR25 per 1000 which is about AUD40. With that 60% promo it would be 64,000 miles for approx AUD1600 which is AUD2.5 cents per mile. Thats slightly cheaper than AA or UA mileage sales (but more expensive than LMs). However, their award chart is overall more expensive than AA, UA and LMs. North Asia in J for 90k return looks like the sweet spot for Australians.

However Alitalia have a very annoying condition that you can only use 75% of the redemption cost from miles you have bought, the other 25% have to be miles from legitimate earning (like flying and hotels stays). Also, they charge fuel surcharges on all awards which blows the cost out.

I've had great success with this status match, gaining access to Garuda lounges on Indonesian domestic and international flights, using premium check-in and getting priority baggage. Ive also had 100% success rate getting exit row seats.

However, I don't seem to have had points posted correctly. I received 1704 non-qualifying mile points for a QF41 flight rather than ~549 for the CGK-SIN flight on the same ticket. Also, I haven't add any points posted for CGK-BPN return flights, also on same ticket as QF flights. While the incorrect issue of miles is currently more than what I should actually have, with upcoming flights I may be in a position to earn status with qualifying miles, rather than require a status match.

I can't find a way of claiming partner airline missing airlines online or an email address to send enquiry too. Any help?

Another option is to try and claim AirFrance miles where I currently have a small accumulation of points.

Was successfully matched to Elite Plus from Q WP.

How long did it take for your cards to arrive? I think it must have been two or three weeks now and I haven't seen mine.

My QR Plat/OWE (exp. 04-2016) was matched to AZ Freccia Alata Plus (exp. 03-2017). Helpful for the lounge, extra baggage, and priority on VN for me within SE Asia.
