what's the significance of "be very careful if changing address to USA"? and the later " I never at any time said I was trying to change the address" So WHY was Alaskan asking for a license?
I lost it at that too. Why mention about changing an address to one in the USA when they didn't do it? Confused ???

Thanks for the encouragement to try, straitman. Good stuff. FYI, I did try 'reading' the intent, but being unsure, I asked tinkybelle of their meaning, which to me seems a sensible thing to do.

I'm sure tinkybelle is quite capable of saying what they meant, if they choose to, but while you are at it, what's the significance of "be very careful if changing address to USA"? and the later " I never at any time said I was trying to change the address" So WHY was Alaskan asking for a license? To learn the lesson tinkbelle is trying to teach us, we, or at least I, would like to know the circumstances. Can you help on this one, Bill?

I'm with you Rooflyer. The post is downright confusing and I've got no clear idea what the issue is/was.

They changed their address from australian(?) to a USA address. The reason why they did this was unclear.

Alaskan then investigated their account after they bought miles and because of the change of address they froze the account.

They went to book an award online and couldn't do it. Therefore rang AS to book it over phone. At this point told the account was flagged to be verified before points unfrozen.

They said they could verify this USA address with a passport, was then told this was not enough and had to have a valid license to prove address. They did not have one.

That's how I read it.

Are there any companies similar to the now defunct 'Shop the States' that will give you a 'home' address in the US?

Once you have a US address, if you purchase a pre-paid VI or MC & load it with US funds would the 'BIN' numbers ie bank identification nbrs be recognused as belonging to US or Canada for the purposes of the exercise or would it need to be a 'proper' credit catd?
Rooflyer did you even read some of the posts or do you just chime in with smart a++e comments?

no wonder people can't be bothered posting advice when it gets flamers like you.

perhaps you should consider looking at your own posts again including the one you just made that has a quote from ozbeachbabe which seems rather irrelevant.

Disagree !

AFAIK, Rooflyer is not a flamer on this forum.

Foul language won't advance any argument anywhere.

Re the below:

I am terribly sorry you feel that way tinkybelle, but I think you have to cut me some slack in being confused when you quote ozbeachbabe and then call me names. I am still hopeful of knowing what your original issue was, that caused Alaskan to freeze your miles account. And by the look of it, I'm not Robinson Crusoe in that regards.

Oh, and thanks for your kind words legroom. I do confess to posting the odd harsh word from time to time, but not in this case.

Hi all, on a slightly unrelated note, apparently there is a new 35% miles purchase bonus going on, and according to pointhacks, Alaska have re-enabled Aussie credit cards to purchase points. Anyone managed to get it to work? Sorry can't post links yet.

Thanks matan100 :) Can't report on Aussie card, as I use a Canadian one.

Will probably try later this week, but I'd say someone will report back before that.

Sounds Promising!!!!

Can confirm there is a 35% bonus with points purchase at least.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - a guide to buying miles for cheap Business Class

This is the info the previous post is likely to be referring to. It is possible that the hold on overseas credit cards might just be during bonus time so we will have to wait and see with some purchase attempts I guess. If anyone tries. Just remember if your card is rejected.... initially it will appear that the purchase has gone through fine and then you will receive an email....typically the next day or so. Saying the transaction was rejected. This will be interesting!

Its up to 35%

Buy 5,000 - 19,000 miles: get a 20% Bonus
Buy 20,000 - 34,000 miles: get a 30% Bonus
Buy 35,000 - 40,000 miles: get a 35% Bonus

I made a small purchase using 28 degrees MC this morning. Miles hit my account immediately.

I made a purchase as well with my 28 degrees MC but it hasn't posted the miles. Will have to see if I get the dreaded rejection email.

The same thing may happen as last time when they see a bunch of Aussie buyers getting in on the bonus and cut the ability short. For the reason that the miles are historically not being burnt on their metal.

Be very careful if changing your address to USA . they froze my account back in oct last year and wanted a drivers licence with my address which i did not have as I and not renewed it and it had to be current
so they refunded pts and closed my account.
I was not given any prior notice but went to book a SYD to NY in F( yes you could imagine the panic it was a sat night and the CS centre for AS was closed so had to wait till monday their time to sort it) which was avail and they blocked the account and to book with AA pts instead.
I offered the passport but they said they needed the address. the telephone dragon I spoke to said why would an Australian want to buy alaskan pts.!!

Without wishing to restart any debates, I'm assuming that tinkybelle is just warning us to be careful what address you use as they might ask for a driving license as verification. If Rooflyer uses his Aussie address but a Canadian Bank Debit Card (with his Aussie address?), then it can't be that issue which flags a "fraud alert" to AS. I think I remember reading elsewhere, this happened to someone in the States but they didn't have a current driving license either so got their points refunded.

If you relocated overseas or just moved house, your address would legitimately change and AS are just asking for verification. If you can't provide it, well they'll shut your account. Would that be a reasonable assumption?
