What you see on CX site does not correlate to what AS have, if Cx has say 4 days with flights AS might have 1 or 2.

When booking you need to search, find, call and ask AS for all CX flights only.

If you find availability on the Qantas or BA websites though then Alaska will probably be able to see it. In my experience there's good availability PER-HKG.

Funny enough I just booked CX HKG - PER using AS miles. Checked availability using CX and QF website.

Just got off the phone and booking was created - just haven't been issued an e-ticket number. *fingers crossed* will be ok given I used an Aussie credit card over the phone.

Edit: E-ticket posted like 10 minutes after getting off phone with agent. Super efficient process - much better than AA I must say... looks like this is a well run company...

Ermen, did you purchase these points prior to the issues with using non us credit cards? I've successfully bought and booked these last year but wanted to see if it's still a viable option for aussies currently.

hi bought prior to aus card issues

We are off to HKG in J on CX using the AS 120K miles (purchased Dec.) this weekend on 1st leg of European holiday, what a deal, 2 x pax return cost was about AUD$3300 normally about $12K!. Rest of trip (4 legs) going EK in J and looking forward to trying out the onboard bar!.

Enjoy your trip Limewood. I'm pretty sure it was your post that alerted me to the Alaska Airlines deal. Although my timing was not great re change of policy of being able to purchase points by ausies, but after a bit of stress and wrangling and the assistance of a american friend Im looking to do one Europe direction in J on CX for my family of 4. Thank you!

Hi Limewood, I'm planning a similar redemption to HKG on CX too, do you mind if I ask how much the taxes and fees etc came up to for this redemption? Cheers!

Should be interesting this trip too on this one season old tub.

Was me who did the AS miles alert here, might have been the eventual reason for the canning of miles deal with too man AFF members getting on the bandwagon :)

Be very careful if changing your address to USA . they froze my account back in oct last year and wanted a drivers licence with my address which i did not have as I and not renewed it and it had to be current
so they refunded pts and closed my account.
I was not given any prior notice but went to book a SYD to NY in F( yes you could imagine the panic it was a sat night and the CS centre for AS was closed so had to wait till monday their time to sort it) which was avail and they blocked the account and to book with AA pts instead.
I offered the passport but they said they needed the address. the telephone dragon I spoke to said why would an Australian want to buy alaskan pts.!!

Who or what is the 'they' who is freezing your bank account etc?

Alaska Airlines and freezing his FF account (not bank account).

Ah, OK, thanks; my mistake re 'bank'. Bit hard to follow; some punctuation would be helpful. Re-reading, it appears they tried to change address to USA and Alaskan wanted evidence via a drivers license with a US address to substantiate it.

FWIW an Alaskan miles account does not need to have a Nth American address to purchase miles. Just the address of the credit or debit card used for the purchase. My Alaskan account has my Aussie address but I use a Canadian bank debit card OK.

Not sure if you are talking about me but
I never at any time said I was trying to change the address
also I never at any time was asked for US address.
never mentioned the word "bank" account.

Yeah, in the bit you quoted you may have noticed that I acknowledged my mistake re "bank" account.

I find your posts just plain difficult to follow. What is the issue, exactly?

What does this mean?

RooFlyer,

Try reading the intent of the text. With a couple of very minor spelling corrections it makes perfect sense to me.

They required a current licence which she did not have as she had not renewed it. They did not want a passport but they did want a licence with the same address on it as she had supplied them.

Does that clarify it for you :?:

Thanks for the encouragement to try, straitman. Good stuff. FYI, I did try 'reading' the intent, but being unsure, I asked tinkybelle of their meaning, which to me seems a sensible thing to do.

I'm sure tinkybelle is quite capable of saying what they meant, if they choose to, but while you are at it, what's the significance of "be very careful if changing address to USA"? and the later " I never at any time said I was trying to change the address" So WHY was Alaskan asking for a license? To learn the lesson tinkbelle is trying to teach us, we, or at least I, would like to know the circumstances. Can you help on this one, Bill?
