Surely the Liberals would be better served by a policy debate (as you seem to suggest) than by association with an ignoramus and the usual fear, uncertainty and doubt fall back position?

There are 42 posts preceding mine . So we are obviously all giving AJ more air time.
Alan jones for better or worse has stirred debate again.
Weather you like or hate him, he ( and others of his ilk) bring the debate ( whatever it may be) into sharp focus.
I for example dislike this current federal government , not because it is a labour coalition, ( kept in power by two conservative MP's ) not because JG is a liar ( and she is) not because of the mining tax etc, but because there seems to be an indecent haste to push through socialist reform , almost as if they expect to lose power very quickly.
Frankly I think a more steady as she goes, approach would have been in order, especially as the real focus should have been on securing the preeminent economic position we were fortunate to hold in this current GFC , a grateful electorate would be less inclined I feel to dump JG at the next election.
But then i am only one vote .
Back to AJ, silly comment, obviously intended to be a bit clever, major fail.

Was Alan Jones a good choice for the Sydney University Liberals as a dinner speaker? Why not choose someone who could debate policy, business, the economy, international relations or something of benefit to the good students and their guests?

Of Jones? Supply is finite, and I think he has exhausted his share. A horrid man, regardless of his politics. ( I have and doubtless will again vote as I feel at a particular election - I have no strong affinity with either side).

You mean for Alan? The man who apologised (fauxpologused?) for saying that Gillard (among others) should be thrown out to sea in a chaff bag and then had the gall to sign a chaff bag jacket for an auction at the same event where he made these latest disgusting comments? And people are sooking that meanie pants Gillard won't return poor, bullied Jones' calls? I doubt I can express my thoughts without a moderation issue popping up, but let's just say the phrase rhymes with "duck be fed".

Forgiveness has to be earned and shouldn't involve the victim having to flush their dignity and self respect down the toilet as Jones and his equally grubby media mates seem to be demanding. Hopefully this episode will lead to politicians of all sides boycotting 2GB while Jones still has a role there, including giving 2GB reporters the silent treatment at press conferences. At the very least, anyone without the scruples to stay away from Jones will provide me with a very decision as to who belongs at the bottom of my ballot paper.

Jones should count himself lucky that Gillard doesn't have the same attitude to defamation as Hawke, otherwise his financial concerns may go beyond losing a few sponsors. I doubt she would lose a single vote if she decided to take this pathetic excuse of a human to the cleaners.

Now just to put it out there what follows is a general view of life and not to be an apology for Alan Jones.

I just think these 2 statements show that the concept of forgiveness is not understood.Forgiveness is given.Just a few quick observations from others which for the sake of brevity come from Wikipedia-

Forgiveness is the renunciation or cessation of resentment, indignation or anger as a result of a perceived offense, disagreement, or mistake, or ceasing to demand punishment or restitution.[SUP][1][/SUP][SUP][2][/SUP] The Oxford English Dictionary defines forgiveness as 'to grant free pardon and to give up all claim on account of an offense or debt'

So please do not take this as an apology for Alan Jones.It is merely a comment on a lot of bitterness we see every day and how it really is counter productive.

There is a brave person sitting on the buy side of MRN shares at 55. Seeing the last sale was 64 that bit of stupid has reduced the networks value so just be glad if you are NOT a shareholder. I think Jones owns a bit of it.
In Perth we don't get his show as far as I know.

He has a large following. He is also part owner of The radio station he broadcasts from. So for all you jones haters out there, is he going to take himself off the air??

And what about the President of the SULC who initially denied knowledge of Jones' remarks until made aware that there was a recording - at which point he suddenly remembered. Does that make the President a liar too? So will Jones now lambast him for enternity? Will Rabbott disown the SULC?

Let's be clear. Alan Jones peddles clear untruths - shrinking economy, cough about climate change, etc. He has encouraged sexism and violent response. AND YET retains the support of the Liberal party. Perhaps you missed Abbott's lacklustre (zero leadership) response, the defence mounted by George Brandis, and the praise from Brownwyn Bishop. Of the very fact that Alex Dore from Syd Uni Libs thought it would be grand to invite the pathetic old fogey to a uni dinner

Jones has in common those other right wing apologists, such as Miranda Devine and Alan Bolt. They are right wing - they peddle deliberately misleading **** - and attract a following among some folk who would rather have an easy one liner solution to a complex issue than to take the time to debate an issue.

Because they are in the media they should held accountable but Jones, at least was never properly admonished during the cash for comment affair thanks to the LIBERAL GOVERNMENT and Howard's buddy Prof Flynt - I'm sure you know the story fella
