Whilst it is a good advertisement, I do not care about the new campaign anymore - until they withdraw their support of Alan Jones show, I am sticking with Qantas!

Advertising on the radio station and supporting the comments of a troublesome media personality are two very different things.

Are Virgin on the list of companies people are lobbying to get their ads pulled from his show or something??

To be very clear, Virgin Australia are one of many companies who advertise on 2GB, which is of course the home of the Alan Jones radio program. I believe the airline doesn't directly support Alan Jones' program, or himself.

That said, many are campaigning to boycott the companies who advertise on 2GB until those companies withdraw their advertising support. Virgin Australia's Facebook wall is flushed with such angry requests. However, like some of the others above I highly doubt this will affect Virgin Australia in any way, let alone this new campaign.

(It should be noted that 2GB has withdrawn the entire advertiser's listing from its website).

I feel a thread split coming up......

Pity the list has gone viral on Twitter and Virgin are being completely bombed about it.... No response as yet there will be interesting to see when they pull their support....

Re: New Virgin Campaign

Seriously - this country needs to toughen up...

A bit of sledging from a radio host - that's all it was...

I cannot believe how fast this country is trying to pad everything in cotton wool as we march toward a communist state

While it was totally wrong for him to say what he did, its just another case of knock the tall poppy down, and he as such an outspoken person, many like to blast away.

If an advertiser is not shown as a supporter for his program nor does he recommend or give them radio editorials, they should be be ridiculed because they advertise on 2GB.

There is a line to what is and what isn't acceptable political comment. You know you have crossed that line when the Libs are trying to distance themselves from it.
Simply it was at best poor taste, at worse outright offensive and as a part owner of the Radio Station I can see why advertisers are looking elsewhere.

Really? Yep, Sydney feels exactly like Pyongyang.

I will admit that my comment was a bit tongue in cheek as I haven't flown Virgin for over a year anyway......

However, the fact is that Virgin has sponsorship on 2GB and Alan Jones program. This revenue allows Jones to stay on air and be vitriolic and condescending towards a range of people (not just Gillard). Challenger, Woolworths, Freedom and Mercedes Benz have already distanced themselves from Alan Jones and are ceasing to advertise. Yes, Alan Jones has the right to say whatever the hell he wants, this is Australia. But people equally have the right to boycott companies that support him, or ridicule what he says. This is a democracy after all.

And to make things clear, I am not a raging socialist and a member of the North Korean communist party. I work in Finance, and I have voted for both political parties.

If Virgin wants to spend money on nuts, perhaps complimentary inflight cashews or almonds would be a better product investment. But I digress.

I disagree with your opinion here.

I believe Alan Jone's diatribe was a vile piece of misogynistic hatred that was deliberately calculated to hurt the Prime Minister in a time of great personal grief.

His personal hatred of her is well demonstrated and he repeatedly shows he has no journalistic ethics of standard when it comes to discussing politics.

That she was forced to change how she planned to govern the country when forced into a minority coalition does not mean she is a liar. It means she is a pragmatist who was successfully able to negotiate. This is something that Tony Abbott was not able to do and he has been bitter and twisted ever since.

He (and the Liberal party) truly believe they are born to rule and that anything done by the Labour Party is illegitimate even though they were voted in by the people of Australia.

I believe that this latest piece of filth (probably silently supported by Abbott and co) will harm their chances of being returned at the next election.

Australia desperately needs a future thinking government that plans for longer than the next election cycle. This type of vile commentary by an influential journalist will not help either Australia or the profession of journalism.

Re: New Virgin Campaign

Tony Abbott's unpopularity in two opinion polls has Liberals suggesting the Opposition Leader change gear and start spelling out a positive alternative.
With both the Nielsen poll and Newspoll finding Mr Abbott's combative style a turn-off for voters, one Liberal MP said it was time for Mr Abbott to develop a more "sophisticated" argument on the carbon tax.
Another Liberal told _The West Australian _ that Mr Abbott would benefit from being less in the public eye and leave the more aggressive attacks to others.
On a two-party preferred status, Newspoll said the Federal contest had narrowed to 50-50, while Nielsen found it was 53-47 in favour of the coalition.
On the question of preferred prime minister, Newspoll shows Julia Gillard has a commanding 14-point lead over Mr Abbott, 46 per cent to 32 per cent, while Nielsen had it at a tighter 47-44.

I'm with you on this one. Words fail me ... Jones is trash.

I am just wondering what ever happened to forgiveness in this country?

Actually its the ratings that keeps him on the Air. Poor ratings means less advertising $$$ can be charged. I don't think he is having a ratings slump (don't read Sydney ratings) and within 2 weeks it'll be old news and the people jumping up and down will be jumping up and down at something else.

Re: New Virgin Campaign

Maybe now Sydney will do what the rest of the country has done for ages - ignore everythingAlan Jones says.
