Airpoints Annual Fee

New annual fee for Airpoints for anyone joining after 16th November 2004. More details here: http://www.airnz.com.au/airpoints/join_airpoints.htm

This page seems to refer to a new joing fee. The annual fee is a different thing (that is avoided if you fly Air NZ). And I can't imagine that I will be flying AirNZ anytime soon....

Well, Mrs LW just got her latest statement today and she now has a grand total of 0 Airpoints, having paid the fee for the last 2 years via deduction of Airpoints. she was just keeping it in case she flew with them again (but I successfully converted her to Oneworld).

Do they close the account on 0 Airpoints (it actually went negative, but shows 0), or does it need to go negative again next year before they realise that it isn't being used. Or do we simply write to them, telling them to cancel??

NZ Airpoints will autocancel. If you really want it closed you can tell them but no benefit in doing so.

Exactly - that's why I e-mailed them late last year requesting they close my account that had a grand total of MINUS 30 Airpoints. I received this cheery reply:

Thank you for your email, and patience waiting for a reply.

Your Airpoints account has now been processed as closed, as requested.

Please note that we will be removing the Airpoints Dollars from your
account, if at a later stage you wish to reactivate your account, the
Airpoints Dollars will not be reloaded.

Why indeed would you want to re-start your account at -30 AirBucks??? Mick, are you seriously saying that's what they wrote to you....I can understand them saying that to a person who cancels their account with a positive balance..

...but then again, we are talking about Kiwi's here :roll: :wink: ...

What, you mean Kiwi Land isn't our 8th & 9th State or Territory :? You were attached to us at one stage many many years ago, like Tasmania. Maybe they have left you on the email listing to make you consider becoming an Aussie citizen, so you can participate.

Correct. I believe they originally intended to be a part when Australia "became a nation". For some bizarre reason, they backed out at the last minute. :?

I'm sure they still regret it.

The folk who decided not to join NZ as a state of Australia are long dead so I dont know how they can still regret it.

Heck, I'm an Aussie and don't find measly QFF points worth getting. I used to do Air Points (yep, I'm not proud), but then Air NZ changed it to status credits - copying QANTAS, and not in a good way. That was bad enough but then they went to these stupid Air Points $$.
Discovered UA Mileage Plus - much simpler, and they let me use my points to fly anyone I want anywhere I want. None of this family members only, or same address only, or other limitations.
Thanks Air NZ, for making Air Points even less attractive than QFF - I found a much better program.

You Kiwi types can join Mileage Plus, and still earn points from Air NZ flights - the joys of *A. I just wish there was a domestic airline here that did that

Unfortunately no Aussie carriers in that group .
