AirAsiaX seems to have fairly good punctuality into and out of Australia.

Today a holiday extra is operating, with flight D7216 having been timetabled into MEL at 0925 and D7217 back to KUL at 1040.

However this special working is running late and will not arrive MEL until 1525 with departure amended to 1655, an unusually long stay for a D7 flight as the operator endeavours where possible to have fast turnarounds.

Cruiser Elite, your sentiments are fine, but may I politely point out that there's no such thing as the XMAS spirit, even if said tongue in cheek?

The word is 'CHRISTmas', because He is the Reason for the Season!

So - um - I've got one of these bookings coming up next week. Haven't heard from them yet, but the re-route issue probably wouldn't have been that big of a deal.

This morning's QZ8501 news however has me sweating just a little.

On the contrary, knowledgable people would be aware that Xmas comes from X being the first letter of the Greek alphabet that translates into Christ and mas translating into the obvious Mass. the use of X as an abbreviation has been going on for a long time.

Thank you, markis10: I have previously read that (although from a different source.) Irrespective of that, though, 'Xmas' has been widely adopted by those who wish to secularise Christmas, something of which perceptive individuals would also be aware.

Anyway, back to the purpose of the thread. Events a day apart put into perspective that those upset (and understandably so) about the rerouting of presumed nonstop MEL - DPS - MEL flights via KUL are (relatively) fortunate compared to what may have occurred to those passengers on the Indonesia Air Asia flight from SUB to SIN this morning.

I have heard the 'reason for the season' mantra prior also from dubious American televangelists over the past couple of decades but have never seen any evidence of secularisation in Australia thus far.

A far more common cry of the religious right in the US lamenting the use of 'happy holidays' and 'seasons greetings' - although a trend I believe we should be prepared to follow as our Anglo and Christian demography is further diluted through immigration and changing social trends.

Maybe the use of word XMAS is by necessity for a one fat middle fingered typist which clearly lessens chance of typos? Nah could be nothing simple like that - lets search for some baseless ridiculous hidden theorem - just sayin'!

Maybe it is good overall, but my personal experience suggests its on time record ex-Aust ain't that good. Pretty sure this mornings PER-KUL flight hasn't left yet

And they do have a habit of canceling flights ex-PER as well.

Well, probably not, since this is about XT cancellations, not D7. ;)

I've received no communication regarding cancellation or rerouting and I'm due to fly in less than a week. Have no intention of taking a QZ flight to KL though, especially since I'd booked 'J' on XT. I imagine getting any timely info from Air Asia is going to be impossible now give the circumstances, but I'd much rather cancel and take another carrier well before it's too late to find an alternative. Frustrating that they continue to wait until the last minute especially now that they have a much more serious problem on their hands.

Not that it matters but there is no need to abbreviate Christmas regardless of what is deemed acceptable today.
