Airline AirAsia X denied rights to fly into Sydney
Long-haul budget airline AirAsia X has been denied permission to fly to Sydney and Seoul due to a row between the Malaysian government and its sister carrier AirAsia, a news report said.
The refusal has forced AirAsia X to scramble to make new plans to utilise the three new Airbus A330 aircraft due for delivery this year, the Star daily said today.
"We had asked for rights to fly to Sydney and Seoul, and the government decided to defer granting us the approval," AirAsia X's chief executive officer Azran Osman-Rani reportedly said.

Hmm, a row between the government (I assume this is the Malaysian Government) and Air Asia. Now which airline has most to loose if Air Asia X starts flying KUL-SYD? Hmm, now that would be MH I expect. Now who is the major shareholder in MH? Hmm, that would be the Malaysian Government I expect.

Perhaps I am just a little too cynical this morning

Given the reported issue is a dispute over outstanding airport fees at KUL, I am not sure that they will be getting permission to fly anywhere else either. Be interesting to see what they come up with, but I would have thought paying the bill would be a good place to start.

We are talking about Malaysia :p. Perhaps there is more than one way to "pay the bill" up there?

Have to wonder why the bill is in dispute. Many possible reasons, ranging from cash flow problems to the bill not reflecting the agreed terms.
