On Wednesday 1 June 2022, A 321 ZK-NNC on NZ102, the 0955 hours morning SYD across to AKL did not become airborne until 1129, with arrival at 1602, 57 minutes late.

NZ104, the 1155 hours on the identical route has B789 ZK-NZQ. It took off at 1311 hours so suggested arrival is 1739 hours, 44 minutes late.

The SYD - CHC NZ26 has A321 ZK-NNB and took off at 1346 so arrival at gate at 1824, 44 behind is the expectation.

These TransTasman delays are not ideal but generally better than QFi is managing at present.

I was on NZ123 on Sunday flying from AKL-MEL on the All Blacks Livery 777 (ZK-OKQ). Upon landing in Melbourne on time (10:50am), we reached our gate okay. But then we were told that the APU had failed. So, we had to wait for Ground power unit. As there were a lot of aircraft taking off at this time, we were told, we might have to wait 20mins. After 20 minutes, the first GPU came around and it also failed. Then we waited for another one (which failed) and another one. Finally, we were out after sitting 1.5hours at the gate. The captain did keep us updated every 20mins or so and crew did offer water while we were waiting, but ofcourse the passengers were frustrated.
Flightradar24 and other tracking websites dont show this delay, but you can see that the outbount NZ124 on the day was delayed by 2+ hours.

AirNZ sent out an apology email so customers can use that as evidence for claiming travel insurance related costs.

Pardon me for asking a stupid and basic question, but does the lack of power mean that the door that allows passengers to walk onto the aerobridge can't be opened? You were already 'at the gate'.

Even with small windows, there's sufficient natural light for passengers to retrieve their belongings.

I actually dont know how that works. I was on the right side, so didnt get to see whether the gate was connected. We had power (with one engine running), but for some reason it wasnt safe enough to allow passengers to deboard. May, I should ask this on the other Ask the Pilot forum.

On Friday 1 July 2022, NZ232 (A320? ZK-NHF), the 0910 hours SYD - ZQN took off at 1033 hours so expected at gate arrival is 1457, 42 minutes tardy.

The early evening departures from SYD to Kiwiland on Friday 1 July are delayed for both NZ and major competitor QFi.

NZ110 (1725 hours SYD - AKL, B789 ZK-NZL) was not airborne until 1857 so predicted at gate arrival is 62 minutes tardy at 2327. Inbound NZ109 had been 26 minutes late arriving at 1626 hours, so maybe once again the security screening at SYD is causing problems for airlines.

On Monday 4 July with continuing less than ideal weather in Sydney, NZ245 (0630 hours early morning WLG across to SYD airborne only a small number of minutes late at 0649, A320 ZK-NHC) is arriving at 0851 hours, 41 minutes late.

Tuesday 5 July has NZ110 (A321 ZK-NNC, the 1915 hours SYD - AKL) still not having become airborne by 2052 hours.

The Monday 4 flight arrived AKL at 0205 hours this morning, 100 minutes late while the two previous NZ110s were respectively 57 and 53 late.

If it's any solace, the competing QFi flight is similarly late tonight.

NZ231 on Thursday 7 July (A320 ZK-NHB, the 1515 hours ZQN - SYD airborne at 1559) should arrive at 1702 hours, 32 minutes tardy.

Delayed flights across the Tasman continue on Sunday 10 July, with NZ104 (1245 hours SYD to AKL, B789 ZK-NZN) taking off at 1412, so the predicted at gate arrival (1843 hours) will be 58 minutes late. Including today, in five of its last seven trips, NZ104 has been more than half an hour late arriving.
