Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations

Thursday 6 February 2020 sees NZ105 (1620 hours afternoon AKL across to YD, but not airborne until 1930 hours) arriving at a predicted 2045, 170 minutes late, with B772ER ZK-OKH.

NZ101, the Monday 17 February 0700 hours AKL - SYD was airborne at 0754 with B772ER ZK-OKD. Arrival is at 0913 hours, 33 minutes behind.

NZ762, the morning 0955 hours Monday 16 March 2020 SYD across to NLK was cancelled.

NZ112, the mid afternoon SYD - AKL 1545 hours departure has also received the boot.

Saturday 9 May 2020 sees NZ103, the 1040 hours AKL to SYD estimated as arriving 95 minutes late. Aircraft is B789 ZK-NZJ.

Apart from this arrival, there are only four other scheduled international flights timetabled into SYD today: CZ325 from CAN, NH879 ex HND, UA863 from SFO and QR908 from DOH.

On some recent days it's reached the magical total of seven!

During coronavirus, on Saturday 23 May 2020, NZ124 (1225 hours MEL - AKL) departed at 1330, taking off at 1347 for projected arrival early this evening 52 late at 1852 hours. B773 ZK-OKQ is the aircraft. At present, this flight operates twice weekly ex MEL on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Earlier on Monday 25 May 2020 during coronavirus, NZ1182, the 1300 hours lunchtime MEL to CHC was cancelled. No other NZ passenger flights were scheduled ex MEL today.

A few hours ago on Saturday 30 May 2020, NZ124, the 1225 hours MEL - AKL (B773ER ZK-OKM) took off at 1344, so arrival in NZ's largest city was at 1900 hours, an hour tardy.

NZ104 (1155 hours SYD - AKL) was also delayed, with B789 ZK-NZR taking off at 1308 and arriving at gate 49 late at 1749 hours.

Saturday 6 June 2020 during coronavirus saw NZ124, the lunchtime 1225 hours MEL - AKL not become airborne until 1447 hours so B773ER ZK-OKN did not arrive until 1946 hours, 106 minutes behind the schedule. The aircraft had arrived in AKL this morning at 0522 hours, 23 minutes early on NZ10907 ex SFO but the next flight, NZ123 to MEL (the 0905 hours) did not see takeoff until 1021 and hence a 58 minute late, 1208 hours, arrival became reality.

These AKL - MEL - AKL flights are running tomorrow (7 June) but although identically timed have an extra '1' at the start of the flight number. Maybe they are a late addition?

NZ912, a Monday 20 July 2020 SYD- NLK scheduled to depart at 0940 hours (A320 ZK-NHA) took off at 1051 hours, arriving 35 minutes tardy at 1350 hours.

NZ124, the lunchtime 1230 hours MEL - AKL on Tuesday 4 August 2020 was cancelled.

There continues to be a ban on inbound international flights to MEL carrying any revenue passengers so this badly affects the economics of operating flights. The vast majority of Australian citizens are proscribed from departing our shores during coronavirus so that too is of no assistance in operating a profitable flight.

On Friday 21 August 2020, NZ had only two flights scheduled ex SYD.

NZ912, the 0950 hours midmorning to NLK was cancelled, but NZ104 at 1205 hours to AKL ran.

On Sunday 11 October 2020, NZ124, the lunchtime 1215 hours MEL - AKL (B789 ZK-NZM) did not take off until 1413 (after departing at 1359) with expected arrival 1911 hours in the early evening, 81 minutes tardy.

Friday 16 October 2020 saw the 0950 hours midmorning NZ912 SYD - NLK cancelled, but a replacement seems to be identically timed on Saturday 17.

NZ804 (1335 hours from SYD across to AKL), Saturday 5 December 2020 did not take off until 1544 (B789 ZK-NZI). Arrival should be at 2018 hours, 93 minutes tardy. earlier it was on NZ103 (AKL to SYD) that did not arrive until 1407 hours, explaining the delay.

On Thursday 14 January 2021, NZ724 (1210 hours MEL across to AKL) took off at 1601 hours with B789 ZK-NZQ. Expected arrival is 2109 mid evening, 204 minutes vtardy.

This is due to this morning's NZ723 (0845 hours AKL - MEL) not becoming airborne until 1302, arriving MEL at 1430, 215 minutes late. Tyhe B789 had overnighted in Auckland so the reason for the delay is unknown.

NZ860 (Tuesday 19 January 2021, the 0950 hours midmorning nicely timed SYD - AKL) is not expected to depart until 1420 hours. NZ913 from NLK to SYD was cancelled yesterday so I don't know if that has anything to do with the delay. NZ doesn't appear to have a passenger flight arriving this morning in Sydney.

NZ878 (1210 hours lunchtime MEL - AKL) was cancelled on Saturday 27 February 2021. This may have been due to the Victorian Government declining to accept inbound passengers for quarantine, meaning (again) NSW has to shoulder most of the burden.
