Due to storms in SYD, NZ105 (ZK-NZE) from AKL to SYD is deviating into MEL, and should arrive MEL at about 1850, 70 minutes after it was due into SYD.

This means a SYD arrival after 2030 even if the flight has only a brief stop in MEL. The latter is busy as one QF flight (QF28) ex SCL has also deviated into MEL and so may have others.

NZ849 (WLg to SYD) has also set course for MEL, where it is similarly about to arrive some 80 minutes after it was due to land in SYD. Operating aircraft is ZK-OJC, an Airbus A320.

Air New Zealand

Although the aircraft forming NZ722 may have overnighted in MEL, it is late this morning, with its scheduled 0845 departure for AKL delayed until 0940.

Re: General Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

I was on NZ105 on 7 December 2014 and was flying business class.

What has happened at Air New Zealand?

The test of high quality customer service is about finding solutions and recovering from less than optimal situations.

I was stranded in Melbourne airport after a Air New Zealand flight was diverted from Sydney to Melbourne. No communication, no organisation, no staff it was a debacle

Then when the business class customer (me) sorts out a way forward and gets themselves on a flight back to Sydney Air New Zealand decline the request for compensation even though they have paid for accommodation and flights for other customers who were stranded

Telling premium paying customer about their policy and their staff woes demonstrates customer service at Air NZ is rhetoric.

Where is the leadership? Where is the management? Where were the staff? Where was the communication?

The rhetoric - thank you for bringing it too our attention we will look into it and use the learning to improve. Joke!

Re: General Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Being 773ER ZK-OKR on NZ123 today is running about four hours late and not due in MEL ex AKL until 1437 - half an hour away. The popular lunchtime departure of NZ124 at 1145 will leave MEL at 1530 according to the Melbourne Airport website, but as with many of these predictions, this is a tad optimistic: after 1545 would be realistic. Time will tell.

Re: General Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Tonight's NZ837 from ZQN arrived in MEL at 1940, 145 minutes late. In consequence NZ726 is delayed, though by far more as its 1830 departure has been put back until 2300.

Unusually, QF155 is similarly delayed from 1840 until 2250 so the terrible twins are at it again.

Both should arrive AKL at around 0430. Better you than me if you have a critical 0900 meeting in AKL. Bleary eyed!

There was a storm in part of West Gippsland, Victoria this evening that resulted in some LAX or AKL bound planes having to deviate southwards but I do not know if the late running of NZ837 had anything at all to do with this.

Re: General Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Tonight's NZ706 (operated by A320 ZK-OJC) was more than two hours late off blocks after its timetabled 1715 departure, so will not be arriving AKL until almost 0030 instead of 2220. Earlier in the day on a SYD - ROT - SYD rotation it had been similarly late.

At least when snoozing tonight in the Kiwi Harbour city it should get a chance to be 'bright and breezy eyed' and hence on time for the inevitable early morning start.

Re: General Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

NZ726 from MEL to AKL has been delayed in its departure from 1820 to a forecast 2310, making for an unpleasant around 0430 arrival in the 'Harbour City.' This may be because NZ853 from WLG to MEL is an expected three hours late - a 2000 hours arrival tonight (10 may 2015) instead of 1700.

Re: General Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

NZ891, the timetabled 0805 arrival from CHC into MEL, is running an extraordinary seven hours late and not due in MEL until 1516 this afternoon. In consequence NZ852, the 0915 from MEL to windy WLG has been delayed until a forecast 1600 ex MEL.

Re: General Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

NZ855 from WLG to MEL (A320 ZK-OJC) is approaching the latter and should be at the gate at about 0905, 65 minutes late. NZ864 from MEL to ZQN has been delayed from 0900 to a forecast 0945 in departing, although the Melbourne Arport website shows these two aircraft as arriving and departing from different gates. That may be a mistake.

NZ123 from AKL was delayed an hour this morning, delaying NZ124 from MEL to 1pm, 40 minutes late.

NZ119 from AKL to SYD is expected in at 1518 rather than 1435. The return flight, NZ118 will be late but strangely is not so showing on Sydney Airport as it is timetabled out at 1550 hours on Sunday 29 November.

The storms that hit in BNE and OOL around 1730 Queensland time tonight have badly delayed NZ804 from BNE to CHC (A320 ZK-OJM) which ended up taking off at 2045 compared to its timetabled departure of 1745. Probable CHC arrival will be a most uncomfortable 0234 hours or so arrival, with business travellers perhaps lucky to be in a CBD hotel room by 0400 or so - imagine having to get up at 0700 for an 0900 meeting!

NZ734 from BNE to AKL is similarly delayed (it should have departed at 1750 hours) and at 2050 was pushing back. It must be trying for an 0300 hours arrival in AKL.

On 2 December 2015 when A320 ZK-OJE failed and subsequently departed the next morning from SYD to WLG, passengers were accommodated at Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel, receiving an A$50 dinner voucher.

While it may not be the case every day, this shows how at times these airport hotels have many spare rooms.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of airport hotels' business comes direct from airlines whose planes are delayed overnight. CBD hotels can also benefit, particularly in cities such as Melbourne where there is a relatively limited number of 'airport hotels.'

On Wednesday 9 December, NZ711 from AKL to SYD (A320 ZK-OJK) took off 57 minutes after its departure time of 2100 hours and hence was late anyway, but the 2000 local time SYD storms have done little to assist punctuality so it looks like this NZ flight may be at the gate at about 2200 hours, an hour late. Often such a flight would improve on the westbound schedule.

As storms approach BNE, NZ804, the 1745 hours Thursday 10 December 2015 BNE to CHC has just taken off at 1938 AEST with arrival adjusted to 0148 instead of 0015 on Friday 11. Aircraft is A320 ZK-OJO.

On Saturday 9 January, ZQN-bound NZ832 from SYD (A320 ZK-OJD) is timetabled to depart at 0925 but at 1052 is still fourth in the queue on runway 34R so it is quite late.
