Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations

Due to the early evening storms around and over MEL on Wednesday 6 February 2019, NZ126 (B773ER ZK-OKT, the 1845 hours MEL - AKL) was as at 2016 still in a queue for takeoff, so arrival will be at least 56 minutes late.

UPDATE: NZ126 did not become airborne until 2036, so arrival should be Thursday at 0140, 80 behind.

Saturday 16 February's NZ722, the 0850 hours morning MEL - AKL took off at 0845. A321 ZK-NNB should arrive at 1514, 49 late.
 
On Wednesday 20 February, NZ707, the 1100 late morning AKL - SYD took off at 1212 hours. A320 ZK-OJM should arrive at 1323 hours, 48 late.
 
NZ855 from WLG to MEL on Friday 22 February 2019 has A320 ZK-OJB and should arrive at 0850, 40 late after a roundabout flight path in its latter stages. Many aircraft are holding into MEL due to the usual Friday morning congestion.
 
A320 ZK-OJK on NZ850, the scheduled Sunday 24 February 1820 hours MEL - WLG was lined up for takeoff as at 1936, so will be at least 45 minutes tardy arriving.
 
NZ175, the medium haul AKL - PER on Tuesday 25 February 2019 has B789 ZK-NZI. This scheduled 1045 hours did not take off until 1344, so arrival has become an estimated 1528 hours mid afternoon, 143 minutes tardy. The aircraft had arrived from PVG 14 minutes late at 1149 hours on NZ286 ex distant PVG, so it must be substituting for a failed aircraft that was rostered to operate to PER and back.
 
B789 ZK-NZC on Saturday 9 March's NZ161, the mid afternoon CHC across to PER did not become airborne until 1716 hours. Arrival is delayed until a suggested 1852 hours, 117 late.
 
Sunday 17 March 2019 finds NZ832, the 0920 hours SYD - ZQN (A320 ZK-OJC) having taken off at 1028, so arrival is delayed until a predicted 1502, 37 late.
 
Later on 17 March 2019, ZK-OJC continues to be delayed with its ZQN - SYD NZ831 suggested as arriving at 1727 hours, 42 late.
 
NZ849, the Friday 22 March 2019's scheduled 1545 hours from WLG to SYD (A320 ZK-OJK) took off at 1649 so arrival is likely at 1809, 39 late. The flight had a brief hold offshore, which has not helped timekeeping.
 
Friday 5 April has NZ60, the mid evening SYD - RAR (B789 ZK-NZN) airborne at 2222, so expected arrival is 0705, 50 late on Friday 5 April.
 
On Easter Sunday (21 April 2019), NZ802, the 1905 hours evening BNE - CHC in the air at 1946 hours (A320 ZK-OJM) should arrive at 0107, 32 late on Monday 22.

Anzac Day (25 April) finds NZ852, the 0910 hours MEL - windy WLG expected to push back at 1320 this afternoon, 250 minutes late. This is due to the inbound NZ855 not arriving until a predicted 1230 hours (265 late). A320 ZK-OJK is the aircraft. This morning it operated what may have been an empty ('ferry') flight from CHC to WLG (NZ6148), arriving at 0924 hours, as last night when on NZ378, the early evening CHC - WLG it had to divert back to CHC. Probably not that unusual for Wellington with its winds.

NZ893, the Friday 26 April CHC to MEL has A320 ZK-NHA and is the 1600 hours airborne a few minutes behind schedule at 1632. The aircraft had held above Warragul so arrival is suggested as 1840, 45 late.

Later on 26 April, A321 ZK-NNB on NZ729, the 1830 hours that was airborne at 2005 should arrive at 2216, 96 late. This aircraft had not been used all day so whether it was in for maintenance that ran over time or connecting passengers were delayed, I don't know.

On Saturday 27, NZ722, the 0840 hours MEL - AKL has been altered to depart 95 late at 1015 hours midmorning.

UPDATE: ZK-NNB spent overnight in MEL and took off at 1022 on Saturday 27, so arrival in AKL should be 90 late at 1545. That it had to be delayed suggests both flight and cabin crew typically overnight in MEL between 'the 729' and 'the 722', so when the former is delayed significantly, the latter will also be. Something to note when choosing a flight.

ABF SmartGates at MEL, SYD and BNE apparently failed at around 0600 hours on Monday 29 April 2019, so the inevitable result is extremely long queues of passengers waiting to be manually processed. If I recall, there are fewer outwards desks for ABF staff with SmartGates than was the case before these were widely in use, so that won't assist timeliness.

As the peak time for departures to Asia starts in an hour at the three major east coast airports, expect flights to incur delays through no fault of their own or the airline staff. Even if all passengers for a flight were checked in an hour before scheduled departure, it's unlikely flights would get away on time. At departures immigration, it would be difficult to 'call forward' passengers whose flights were almost scheduled to depart.

NZ104, the 1155 hours SYD - AKL is predicted to depart at 1240 hours, as the arriving NZ103 from AKL is slightly more than an hour late.

The 0840 hours MEL - AKL(NZ722) is showing as pushing back at 0910 hours.

The 0950 hours SYD - NLK departed half an hour late.

Friday 10 May's NZ891, the 0605 hours CHC across to MEL took off at 0630. A320 ZK-NHA is arriving 42 late at 0842 hours.

NZ722, the 0850 hours MEL to AKL took off at 0940 so arrival should be at 1505, 40 late for A321 ZK-NND.

NZ104 (Saturday 11 May, the 1155 hours SYD across to AKL with B772ER ZK-OKE) took off at 1155 with arrival claimed as 1736 hours, 36 late.
 
On Sunday 12 May, NZ192, the 1200 'high noon' ADL across to AKL (B772ER ZK-OKD) was in the sky at 1318 with arrival suggested as 1943 hours, 68 late.
