Scoopon refunds when an operator/supplier goes bust.

There was something i read in an article earlier about scoopon having flown a representative there to assist with re-booking on other airlines and the likes. If thats actually the case, then good on them. Nice to see a company going over and above in the customer service area.

It's a real shame this has happened. I really liked their new name, branding and logo!

So i guess the question is.. Why did this happen??

If the airline is thought to have traded while insolvent, then ASIC may investigate.

Whilst there will be regulatory investigation it won't really help the passengers who have lost their money or the staff who have lost their jobs. Perhaps something can be learned from an investigation. Perhaps the relevant authorities will take a closer look at company financials before granting an airline the significant responsibility of operating international services. Air Australia began Hawaii services on December 14 so how solid was their business plan if they didn't have enough reserves or credit to get them past 2 months of expanded operation.:?:

As always, Caveat Emptor :(

Their HNL services were not an expansion as such, just a change in cities served, they have been flying to further destinations previously.

It appears with limited success at whatever they try.

Perhaps fledgling airlines should have to show credentials like passengers do when entering some other countries; an ongoing ticket, a valid passport and proof of finances.

PS. I read some reviews in another thread in which passengers complained that they were on flights where the the drinking water and toilet paper ran out. Sound of alarm bells ringing:!:

yes, just like a backpacker going to the UK, you should have to have $10,000 in your bank account if your a International Airline flying overseas.

I am still not shocked by it but their problems were obviously kepts as very hush-hush as possible. Rumours were doing the rounds for a while - the media only made them public on Thursday. If people knew how poorly they were doing earlier, they wouldn't have booked with them.

Airlines have failed many times before and will continue to - usually it is a bad business model. People never seem to learn that low cost usually means one thing. Especially the people going on thier honeymoons or going to a wedding. Did the show Airways not teach you ANYTHING?

Don't know if it was hush hush, I was informed of issues with cash flow in July last year where one of the service providers refused to continue supply, and the insurance issue was covered by the press in December. For an airline that has been around since 91, it's sad to see them go, but they should have stuck to charters rather than join the graveyard of failed RPT operators with small fleets.

I agree and they had problems before July that indicated they were on a one way street to said graveyard as well.

I just hope their employees are ok and looked after.

TSV was a place where they where flying out of.

I have been on flights where the beer has run out. Is Qantas in trouble?

Re: Air Australia goes under

And all the usual names of the freeloaders who benefited from the largesse splashed around.
Started with $12 million in May 2008 and in the next 2 financial years lost $11.4 million.Surprised it lasted so long.

Re: Air Australia goes under

Rather annoying watching the news tonight and seeing people giving check in staff the spray. and not Air Australia staff either.

Agree - it isn't called for, these people are trying to help as best as they can.

Some of these people really shouldn't take holidays if they can't afford to for an alternative if something goes wrong. If a few thousand dollars in airfares will push you over the edge, don't go on holidays! Things do go wrong sometimes......

I guess they're frustrated, but having a little common sense will go a long way in a situation like this.

And they most likely skimped on paying for travel insurance as well.

Re: Air Australia goes under

Yeah there was an article on ABC (Thousands in limbo after Air Australia grounding - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)) .... love the quote that some can't afford the $200 to get home. Seriously? You go overseas, and don't have a spare $200?!? Either they're incredibly dumb and really did spend their last cent (and have no friends or family to loan them the money) or they're fishing for a freebie which they don't deserve.

My guess is they just don't want to pay anything to get home.. unless they have blown every last cent on alcohol??

Re: Air Australia goes under

Is that not a moot point in this situation?

Yes and No. Some insurers weren't covering Air Australia flights, but the people who VH-OEJ was referring to are ones likely to not pay for travel insurance regardless of who they were flying because they suffer from 'it won't happen to me' syndrome and need to spare every single cent just to take the holiday in the first place.
