AFF Member Stock Discussion

Putting aside the human toll and the tragic consequences of the virus, I am predicting far worse economic and financial consequences as a result of COVID-19 than the markets have currently priced in. I am selling the majority of my retail and super funds into this small rally today/tomorrow. Tempted to buy gold ETF (and possibly BEAR ETF) at some point.

There are several key indicators such as highly leveraged corporate credit and overstretched debt markets which when they unravel will cause a snowball effect. Monetary stimulus will have little impact in this low interest rate world, while fiscal stimulus will help but not prevent the US to fall into a probable recession. The rest of the world will suffer to varying levels as a result.

These are my humble opinions only. No one can be certain what will play out. For me, this is not just risk tolerance, rather strategically repositioning in light of what I see as massive tail risk that has not been factored in yet.

Iā€™ve been playing with GEAR, BEAR but also BBOZ as all of them have different gearing applied to market movements. If you think the market will go down then bboz is a stronger buy as it will increase much more then BEAR

Described here

GEAR is also levered

a dividend cut is on the horizon.

Probably.. but in 2009 , my broker suggested I might "enjoy" overall 30% drop in portfolio dividends.
As I recall the dividend stream barely faltered.
This time it may be different.

Our 1/3 of super invested in shares is down around $75K .... lucky we're not retiring for another 20+ years!

How much was it up last year though
Always look forward ... at least with a smile :)
I have a work associate who seemingly has been very frugal - they were complaining three weeks ago that their investment broker sold some of the portfolio earlier this year (strategic profit taking) and those shares sold would have had a market price at the time of $60K more than they had been sold for.

What was done late last week? The investment broker was advised their services were no longer required. šŸ˜•

For those of you interested in gold explorers, keep an eye on Mako Gold (MKG). Drilling results have shown good potential.
