Good work Sam - I hope you all enjoy it.

I be a Bronze to this as that weekend I am off to a wedding near PTI.

Already booked and confirmed several H and Q class seats on DJ.

Also golf does sound like fun, so put me down for that. (I would suggest you don't group me with any serious players, I enjoy the game, but I'm not overly good at it)

You mustn't be playing it right then ! ;)

I'm a bronze for this one.

Re: Accommodation

I have an idea, it's a bit out there but I think people will like it.

Not to long ago, I had the pleasure of having lunch at Ruffles Lodge (Ruffles Lodge & Spa Restaurant - Dining - Dining Gazebo Wineries Gold Coast Hinterland) , it's in the Gold Coast hinterland. It's a lovely destination and has spectacular views looking back onto the Gold Coast.

I love the idea of showing off the beach side of the Gold Coast, but I think it'd also be a missed oopportunity if we didn't show off this other side of the Gold Coast.

We could easily book the place out for AFF, hopefully they could do a good price for us, but I'm not sure of the logistics of getting everybody from Surfers/Broadbeach to the Hinterland. (Those that really want to can enjoy a private helicopter ride...)

Anyway, just something to think about.

(Also, if you could put me down as Gold thanks Sam. )

Excellent idea and similar to the idea I came up with on my beach stroll this morning. Transport may be an issue; possibly solved by hiring a mini bus. (logistical and $$ issues!)

Please put me down as Gold, but trending Platinum!

Re: Accommodation

Thanks for taking the lead initiative for this event samh004.

I will be a Bronze for now. I will be in Paris assuming my ex-RGN fares are honoured.

bronze....:(

I knew unfortunately you wouldn’t be able to make it, from the previous polls :(

It may also be an idea to come up with some cheap or free things to do.

OK, I'll start that ball rolling........since we're a tourist town, most attractions want a slice of your cash, so for fifty bucks, I'll tell you the free ones .

Naw, just kidding (maybe just getting in the swing of things). Here we go.......

  1. With 60km of near perfect surf and sheltered beaches, that plays a big part here on the GC and it's all free. Walks, swimming, surfing, boogy boarding, jogging, playing, lazing, sun tanning, kite flying, frisbieing etc
  2. Shopping. Pacific fair, Cavill Ave/Surfer precinct generally, Broadbeach Mall, Harbour town (outlet shopping), Australia Fair, Sanctuary Cove marine village, Gallery walk on Tamborine.....be limited only by your self-restraint.
  3. Southport foreshore parklands. A newly developed community space with, broadwater swimming in a safe enclosure (including diving pontoon), rockpools and BBQ facilities, free entertainment (from time to time), parks, gardens and lawn areas great for kids and adults alike .........all free.
  4. Like Liam, I enjoy the "Green behind the gold".....the GC hinterland offers some great free stuff including O'Reillys Treetop walk, Binna Burra bushwalks, Springbrook bushwalks (we enjoy the waterwall circuit) and Natural Arch (including the glow worm caves) are also great little getaways.
  5. Gold Coast also has a botanical garden set on 31 hectares just 10 minutes from Surfers.
  6. Markets.......( I avoid these like the plague, but some poor fools enjoy them). Carrara has permanent markets and beach markets are held every Sunday at one of the GC beach parks. Friday night markets are held every Friday night in Surfers.
  7. Surfers Paradise has a free Sporting Hall of Fame, for all the sport nuts.
  8. Fishing
  9. Gold Coast Art Gallery

Of course, there are the "pay for play" attractions like.....

  1. Theme parks..Dreamworld/White Water World, Movie World, Wet & Wild and Sea World.
  2. Bungee and sling shot madness
  3. Putt Putt
  4. Ripley's "Believe it not" museum
  5. Surf schools
  6. V8 motor school
  7. Zorbing
  8. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (an oldie, but a much loved favourite) and David Fleays Wildlife park
  9. Go Carting
  10. Golf (all levels)
  11. Skirmish
  12. Adventure Rope Parks (x 2)
  13. Segway riding
  14. Capsule style ferris wheel
  15. Skydeck at the Q1 (for those not climbing)
  16. Hot air ballooning
  17. Boat cruises (from gondalas to luxury yachts including self drive, yacting schools and jet boat rides)
  18. Helicopter rides
  19. Gold Coast Turf Club has racing every Saturday
  20. Sports galore (though we're no Melbourne at that)
  21. Juptiers Casino
  22. Tamborine rainforest walk (like O'Reillys tree top walk)
  23. Wax Museum
  24. Infinity (illusions maze)

I think that's a good start, but I'm sure others can add to it!

Jeeze....I nearly forgot to add under the free attractions (or should that be complementary?), a newbie on the Gold Coast........

The GC Virgin Australia Lounge!

Fishing, fishing, fishing, oh and there is a beach, did I mention fishing :)

Haven't caught a fish on the gold coast in ten years, inside, outside, canals. Closest I got was a lure in a mass of tangled fishing line at talleburgera :) maybe a trip to the fish farm :)

Excuse the typos, this was sent from my iPhone using Fat fingers

That's a great list of what the GC has to offer, swanning_it.

Yes, but what do we do after lunch? :p

Seriously swanning_it, that is a very comprehensive list. Well done, and we shouldn't have trouble finding options.

So who else is coming to this event?? I think over 30 are coming to the Christmas in June weekend so how many are up for October?

What's the thoughts for the proposed programme? It sounds excellent and so far, we're standing at about 10. Others?
