My vote goes to ZQN (because it's just stunning) and AKL (because it's easy with a good number of carriers to choose from).

Let me join in in thanking anat0l, and his team, for orgainising such a great event. Thanks guys!

I'm only sorry that I could only make Saturday dinner. It was great seeing the familiar and new faces. Apologies for not getting to chat to everyone.

I've started a new thread for planning next year's event. Please post your comments for the 2011 Gathering at http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ocial-events/aff-gathering-5-ideas-26132.html

I know I did not get a chance to make it to this gathering or any others for that matter but I will make one of them one day. In my opinion discussing international locations for next year's gathering is going to limit the number of people interested in attending.

How about ASP, its about as central as you are going to get :D:D:D And it does have a QP, not sure what its like though, I will check it out mid Nov.
Small. ABout the size of an average lounge room and not a lot on offer apart from protection from the flies. ;)

Sam,
Just found the photo album.
I hope the players enjoyed the course.

ZQN flights are seasonal ex-MEL though... but I'm not v sure what the schedules are like. I'd probably be burning up BD miles and using NZ either way. :)[/QUOTE]

How much would it cost to charter a flight if ZQN becomes a schedule problem??

If you’re talking about my album, I only posted a few as I wasn’t at the golf really, only arrived at the end. I was wondering if anyone had more to share or if there were photos I was missing ;)

I doubt we’d have enough pax to charter a 737 ;)

What was his handicap? As I was not there you were the official handicapper for the day and as official handicapper you are allowed to adjust anyone's handicap as required if you suspect them being of being a bandit. ;)

The only handicap he had was the soles of his golf shoes coming apart on 6th hole but he didn't let that bother him.

After all it was a social event, nobody was playing for sheep stations. :p

Now you tell me!:D:shock:

Forgive me for not reading the whole thread, but is there a BNE drinks night on Nov 10th or 11th?
Or if known, in Syd on Nov 8th or 9th?

The next BNE drinks night has not been decided. Were it to happen, it would be on the 17th, 24th or 25th, depending on different schedules. If you’d like to meet up with a few of the locals while in Brisbane, we’d all be happy to, providing we’re around, though it might not be a part of the official monthly gatherings ;)

Sorry for my delay in replying here.

Max_1, thank you for the organisation of the day - it went off without a hitch.

drron will be remembered for his shorts - I'm not sure whether anyone took a photo, I think it may have been too bright

From his drive off the 1st, ozbeachhunk (aka Rob) was re-christened ozbeachbandit. On the 10th tee, he was 8 shots ahead of me and joked that the wheels could fall off yet. No, that didn't happen and he was the clear winner on the day (12 shots). For a guy who hasn't played in 18 months and used loaned clubs, he hit an 83 - played an excellent game given the temporary holes (his eagle on the 9th was shot of the day!). I have the perpetual trophy and can arrange to have it engraved, then try to give it to straitman when he's in transit in BNE on his next trip up to DRW (or get it to markis10). Of course, this means that Rob has to come back to defend the trophy , so we'd better start playing lots!

Agree about the poor catering. :-|

"Penne with Pesto sauce and oven roasted vegetables"!! (Penne with a green looking gravy with carrots and a few other bits of vegeis - IMHO tasteless!

Aside from being airline food; If I want a vegetarian "meal" I would have requested one. (Apologies to all those vegans out there)

Not much moves me on this level (I mean it is "only" airline food); but I am going to register a complaint to Qantas about this ...
And I did; the same day as that post.

Yesterday I had a call!

Cliff notes: Apology and an offer of a $100 Qantas voucher.

Note this is he first time I have ever formally complained about a "meal" to Qantas.:-|

Quite fair result I think. I have never complained about anything, and QF has in the past owned up to problems and sent some compensation. However, I had a problem with my meal (not a personal dislike for the food, but unexpected contents) on QF16 on October 17. It was written up by the head steward (I was told verbally) so I expected some contact from QF; no contact has happened yet (to my knowledge), so I am planning to write in. There also were other nuisance issues on that flight with the AVOD and with overhead lights in the area where I was sitting which I may as well raise at the same time.

To be fair, the reheating process, from my hunch, adds a good degree of water (or as a defrosting process, similar to heating a frozen meal). Unless your pesto sauce was really, really well prepared and slathered on liberally, it was always going to taste like nothing.

Tomato ragout is a no-brainer. Pesto sauce is not; QF should know better than to understand the implications of serving that in Y. The addition of boiled veggies does not help in that regard!

Good to see you back home, jrobin and great to catch up again (albeit briefly)
Lindsay, great to catch up with you briefly also.
You are prescient. I am "back home" but in our "second home", Glen Waverley, Vic. for another two weeks until heading to Vietnam, Hong Kong, and then back to our "first home" in Waterloo, Canada (where Blackberries come from) in time for Christmas.
