Advice needed urgently re med situation in Sing

they have arranged flights home for us.
Fantastic, at least the ball is rolling in the TI office.

Not sure what happens in MEL but
In SYD, if the wheelchair is supplied by the airport, they refused to let us wheel Mrs QS with fractured tibia to the car. Only as far as the sliding glass doors.😤

Wheelchair assistance at SIN is organised via your airline - in this case QF but book ASAP as you are departing Sunday
The SIN T1 check in is directly adjacent to the T1 drop off - could MrDGMS walk about 100M?
The QF check in desk is at Row 8

Can confirm, wheelchair will not go outside in Melbourne @Quickstatus @DontGetMeStarted

Also if it is busy, they are often under pressure to get to the next pax (don't let them, all they need is ok from supervisor )

They got me to baggage carousel and said : ok, I need to go now.
I said ,sorry , can't walk fractured foot ( was 7am)

They wil/should take you through Express formalities between carousels 4&5 .
You must have nothing to declare and no more than 2 checked bags each ( hope you can enlarge pic can read the t&c's.)

A couple of years ago we flew on Qantas from DEL to MEL. A lovely lady met us at the plane with a wheelchair for MrF and wheeled him all the way out to the bus stops where the hotel shuttle buses pick you up. She even phoned the Holiday Inn for us to let them know we were waiting for the shuttle.

I have experienced this as well when travelling with my father who needed wheelchair assistance at MEL. However also experienced the opposite on another occasion when they would not allow the wheelchair to go outside at all. Perhaps it is just luck of the draw with the particular staff member on the day.

***update ****
Heard from Insurance company and both admissions have now been accepted and acknowl edged for coverage. Such a huge relief for us and now dont have to sell a kidney to pay for it all. Hotel have been amazing and are even arranging a car and staff member to accompany us to the airport and check in. I cannot thank everyone enough on here who has helped me in my journey the past two weeks …….i don't know what i would have done without your assistance….

Even though I don't know you, best news I have had all day. Now relax, have a stiff drink and get ready for the next chapter in your joint recovery process

Wow, that is so kind!
....

How close were you to booking your own ticket when TI rang up with QF tickets?. Would have been awkward.
Hotel have been absolutely amazing, happy to promote them when the time is right. I called TI and said I need to get my husband home, I won’t go into what the first supposedly senior case manager said and then he transferred me to the lady I had been dealing with and she first confirmed they were booking flights against admittance 2 while waiting on admittance 1 confirmation. Whilst I was waiting for flights to come through, she called back and said they were covering all ! What an absolute relief…can’t thank you enough too for your help

I know the internet is supposed to be a cesspool but AFF is an extraordinary example of the good that can come from so many kind and helpful people who work as a community, even with people we don’t know IRL.

I’m glad you have had a good outcome with the TI, the hotel and most importantly your hubby’s health. I’m sure it will be fabulous to be safely back home and I wish a speedy recovery for you both from this ordeal.

Thank you, we are home safe and my husband recovering, might take a while but we are back in our own home. There is no amount of thanks I can give this community for their care and support

How were the wheelchair transfers?
Well ….on arrival at Singapore Airport with an escort from the hotel, i asked about the wheelchair and showed the fit to fly letter and a guy appeared and we had to go through everything again, he wanted to see all paperwork, medication charts etc and phoned a dr somewhere in the airport. I thought they were going to deny us boarding, but after lots of questions they allowed through. Wheelchair assistance was great to the lounge and then collected again for QF38. I don’t know what happened with the arrival at Melbourne we seemed to be at Jetstar Terminal 4…crew advised there was no air bridge so pax would need to use stairs and meet bus to Terminal 1……..they arranged a scissor lift for us ! So it was quite the ending to our trip. Slept 14 hours and took my husband to Dr today for check up vitals good, but very weak.and lung function test and other specialist tomorrow and Thursday

That's weird. Indeed it did. Flightradar24 map it arrived at T4
Perhaps all the gates were occupied at T2

Happy for both of you that it turn out well in the end.
I hope you get the reimbursements quickly - I suppose paying upfront meant you might have got a few more FF points back.

I would have thought that cancelling a frequent flyer flight would result in return of points.

Qantas awards are considered used and non refundable once travel has commenced (unless Qantas are the cause of cancellation).

Generally insurance companies would refund the points "value" as appropriate. Given insurance paid for QF38, no refund there.
