I have posted this before, put I have perfected the "Walk in a way that takes me no closer than 3 metres of the spriukers with a 'no-thanks' look on my face, while looking at them "in the eye".

Works well.

Don't know, but Citibank has a big problem.
After I got their card, i got offers at my silent address from ANZ and NAB and the Hong Kong one, BOQ, and AMEX. Those Indian call centres, obviously have a sideline running.

Similar story - I had telemarketing calls (regarding what? I don't know - their English was so bad) within days of signing up for the Citibank Visa.

Cheers,

They aren't employees of Amex or Citibank, but outsourced agents - just like the guys working the Foxtel stands in shopping centres (although the Foxtel dudes are from a remarkably more reputable outfit).

They obviously do a roaring trade, as their 3x3m spaces in QF terminals run at around $10k per month. Add the agent wages & commissions, etc to that and it seems to be a very expensive way to acquire new customers for a product that is readily available in a bunch of other channels.

But, like I said, it obviously works or they wouldn't be doing it.

Free plug: Anyone flying DJ or QF out of MEL for the next few months, make sure you stop by for a free wine tasting at the big red stands....and if you get a staff member from those following you in the style of the Amex pests - be sure to let me know.

shillard,

Could you be more specific about the location. I was at QF MEL this afternoon and didn't see anything like this.

I've been meaning to do that actually. At home we have a silent number which has worked surprisingly well (I think I've taken 2 telemarketing calls in the last 12+ years), but this call was to my mobile.
