Am checking in today at Adelaide IC for four paid nights, and a AMB BOGO weekend.

I was reading a few posts on TripAdvisor, where one person made comment, that the hotel 'gave' them upgrades to "Club Rooms with Lounge access" BECAUSE they were staying more than five nights.

Is this right ? Anybody heard / experienced that one before ?

Any IC, or just Adelaide ???

Stayed there a number of times. I can't say I have ever encountered this. Club lounge in IC Adelaide is a bit of a snooze. For some reason they put it at the top of the hotel but there is no view.

So, I'm at my Conference today ( after checking-in yesterday ), and I get a call from the hotel, welcoming me IN ADVANCE to the Club Lounge this Friday evening ...

I said, ummm, I'm actually already here. Gave a brief story.

Anyway, I said, 'while I have you on the phone', could I ask about your 'unwritten' position on giving Club access to guests staying five paid nights or more.

Guy never heard of it. Said he'll check it out, and get back to me. No return call.

So, when I get back to hotel this afternoon, I approach the Check-In desk and give the story again.

Young female 'duty manager': We can offer you Club access for $80. / night ( which is about half price ? )

She also did not seem to have heard of this 'upgrade' either ... ( she'll check with General Manager tomorrow ).

So, seems to be fairly rare ( if actually given to the odd guest with five nights or more )

( I'm staying total of six nights, but one is a comp. via AMB BOGO )

VERY DIS-APPOINTING ....

( some may say, I should have known this ... )

I noted from my IHG Rewards account, that I didn't get the points I was expecting.

I emailed the hotel direct, to ask if they had submitted the points for me ...

What I got back 'blew me away' ...

Basically, NO POINTS at all, due to the stay being booked on a 'corporate rate'.

MY MISTAKE, was to book via my conference organiser ( as just $10. / night less than online myself !! )

NEVER TAKE UP CONFERENCE ACCOMMODATION OFFERS IF YOU WANT IHG REWARD POINTS !!

Considering the current promo ( mine was aimed at IC stays ), all up, I've lost some 20 - 25,000 points by 'saving' just $40. by paying my conference organiser direct.

See my TripAdvisor report ...

Bugger, something to file away for future reference

$80!?? I've never had a problem simply walking in (piggy back on someone else with key card access) every night. No name/room check like IC SYD.

In all honesty the TA report is a long winded rant.

You got stung by not doing your research on the inclusions and exclusions on the Corporate rate you purchased.

On club lounge access:

Until early September you could book a River-view room and get upgraded to a club room as an Ambassador. I checked in in mid-September and was advised that this wouldn't happen anymore but they made an exception for that stay. Now the upgrade is from a River-view room to a suite (which I don't rate at this property). Club has to be booked or pay a supplement. I was quoted $90 but I've been offered $80 at other times.

Also, I have been checked for room number on a few occasions when entering the lounge. They are probably most consistent at breakfast with asking, not so much in the evening and nowhere near as consistent as IC Sydney with asking.

Well, after a few FB posts on the IHG Rewards Club site, it took less than an hour, to have the points in my account ... AND, my Accelerate offer showed the relevant stay as well.

I can't change the TripAdvisor "rant" ( lol ), but I warned the Front Desk Manager at Adelaide ( when he emailed me to say 'sorry', but no points ) that I would make a post like he's never seen before. Gave him 24 hours, but nothing else back from him ... so there it is.

Regarding the Club Lounge, well three of us walked in on one of my authorised evenings .... a staff member was seated at the door, and got me there and then. "Room number sir .... are the three of you in the same room ? That will be $45. Shall I add this to your room account ? " Seems I always get asked room number everytime I walk into a Lounge ... even if it's by card-access only.

Anyway, I finally got my points ....

There was a rule change in the Ambassador Terms and Conditions, around that time, tht aspecifically addresses Ambassadors and Club Access. Not sure why the felt the need to write it into the rules.

The Club InterContinental Experience or Club Lounge access will not be given to Ambassadors as this is not a benefit that is included in Ambassador status.

Never been asked for details after many many stays, also sometime back about 3 yrs I think was given lounge access card after a couple of issues and told to use this from now on, it still works today!!!!

Well, my "long-winded rant" paid off ...

Finally got all the points I was expecting ( about 34,000 all up, including ACCELERATE bonus points ).

Approval for points allocation was granted by the Rewards Centre - not the hotel.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
