I'd appreciate a few comments on hotels in Adelaide. I don't go to that city very often and usually just make day trips because I like to go home :D , but this trip is to attend a 2-day exhibition so I'll have to stay over.

The exhibition organisers have arranged the following rates:
Stamford Plaza - $180 night
Majestic Roof Garden Hotel - $135 night
Mercure Grosvenor - $125 night

I am a Hilton Premium Club member and to date have not used one benefit, so thought maybe I should finally make use of the program. Is the Hilton Adelaide any better than the hotels above? Where would you stay?

I'm not enrolled in any hotel program so this is just about finding a nice place at a decent tariff. ;)

I can't compare with the other hotels, but Hilton Adelaide is nice. Central location. Upgrades to ncie rooms as Gold and Diamond. Nice lounge with happy hour and canapes.

I presume the conference is in the convention/exhibition centre?

If so, I believe that is much closer to the Stamford/Mecure than the Hilton or Majestic.

A good map of where hotels are is here:

You will find that Hilton is about 10 mins walk back to North Terrace.

I've stayed in both the Hilton and Stamford (btw, there are 2 Stamfords in Adelaide - one at the beach and one in the CBD).

I found the Hilton to be a little dated - especially in the non executive floors (like most Hiltons in Australia, it is starting to show it's age, but is still a good hotel). The Stamford was ok and I enjoyed staying there, but I don't remember it too well as it was a few years ago and can't compare it properly to the Hilton.

The Hilton Adelaide is my favourite Hilton in Australia (just behind is MEL). Excellent Club Floor staff and decent deals to be had through PC membership. Only not been upgraded to Club floor once in the last 5 years.

For example, the July eSpecial for ADL Hilton - Hilton Indulgence package for $180 per night (net cost of $156 after 20% discount) gives you included breakfast for 2 & chocolates. That's cheaper than the Stamford Plaza - and does it include breakfast, or is that room-only??

I don't know any of those 3 hotel listed as never stayed in them - so can't directly compare.

I always find a walk in the morning to my clients (through the Square to King William Street) helps me clear my head and collect my thoughts. Sure, that might take you 10 minutes to get to the ACEC (Adelaide Convention & Exhibition Centre) - you have to weight up the pro's and cons. YEMV (your experience may vary).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've stayed at the Majestic Roof Garden and the Stamford Plaza, and I found both of them to be ok.

Had an issue with my room bill at the Stamfor but aside from that it was good.

Peter,

HPC and HHonors tend to go hand in hand in Oz; Join HHonors for AU$ZIP and get 1000 QFF points per stays + 10 HHonors points per base US dollar (AFAIK, ALL HPC deals earn such point as well as stay/night/base point credits(for status)).

The Best Western Riviera Inn on North Terrace, with views of Adelaide Oval, is quite good if you are not after an up market hotel. You could get a rate of between $100-$120/night. If you book through hotel then all spending, including meals, earn FF points x3.

I stayed there for 4 nights in February and the restaurant is nice as well.

Hilton is quite OK, albeit a little dated. We got upgraded to a suite, and white it was a little dated, it was quite pleasant. As serfty said, you get 1000 QFF points AND (not or!) HHonours points too. I don't think we paid much more than $150 for Adelaide Hilton.

(I rarely get upgraded for a flight, but I cannot ever remember not getting upgraded at a hotel or for a car rental. No idea why! :D )

Thanks everyone for your help! :D I'll get out the map and have a look at a few of the locations in relation to the conference.

I suggest the Medina Grand Treasury as an alternative to the Hilton. Same area of town, but much nicer rooms.

If you want to be on North Terrace near the Convention Centre, there is the Hyatt at the expensive end of the range and the Radisson Playford mid-range, and both are nicer than the Stamford Plaza or the Grosvenor.

Majestic Roof Garden is near Rundle St, good area for restaurants but I do not know what the rooms are like.

Peter, remebr that with the Hilton Premium CLub you save 20% on any rate booked via Hilton.

You also save 20% on all F&B charged to your room.
