Additional bags on AA past the OW allowance in Main cabin?

My friend is booking USA domestic fares through QF on AA for next month and has QF Gold status: I can work out from AA Website that she'll have two checked bags included when booked in the "Main Cabin" - however does anyone know how a third bag would be priced? Is is seriously going to be $150 per sector?!?!

Do gate agents have visibility into a passenger's number of checked luggage?
If so they could charge for a 3rd bag if it's gate checked. But do gate agents in the US ever ask for payment for excess baggage?. I've never come across it which is possibly why the locals always have massive carry on
Probably, but the request to check carryon is usually “we’ll waive any charges”. So I guess there’ll be some who can game the system but usually you don’t see anyone rushing to the podium…
Not sure how the pilots ever get their weights right...
Quite. Not to mention estimating the self loading cargo.

Now you mention it last year I was flying LAX-DFW-LIT with 3 bags (separate AA ticket) and he was going to charge me for the third bag.

I had given him my QF WP card already so pointed to it - he apologised and did something on the computer and it was all good. I wonder if it's just a case of oneworld FF numbers not being in the right place, or just a technical glitch (I was in First so would have had 2 bags with no status).

First and only time that's happened to me though.
Could be, interestingly my status didn't pop up automatically at DFW for entry to the flagship lounge despite entering it in the AA system. Perhaps I should have suggested an add/remove (I did ask initially but sapphire was showing on the BP so we assumed this wasn't the issue).

The agent called a support line who initially gave the 'charge and ask for refund later' advice - I had to push (politely, lest I be denied travel) that this wasn't right.

Did you have your physical QF card?

I always present mine for this reason, and have never had an issue. They always want it though and type the number in, never just scan the BP. You shouldn't need to present a card as the detail is on the BP, but for whatever reason I've just developed a habit of proactively offering it.

What about the digital version in the app?

I maintain a physical card because I prefer to hand it over when checking in and entering the lounge, but I'm sure it would have the same effect.

There's something about that shiny card with the oneworld emerald logo and an expiry date I think would be enough to appease most lounge dragons.

Yeah, this was very helpful at the lounge. I make a habit of carrying mine when overseas, with the Qantas cash like a 5th layer of backup if i lose every other credit card!

Check in agent didn't seem to need it during the baggage issue though.

Trying to book on AA website, first time in 3 years, what a mess. Basic/main cabins etc all confusing the hell out of me, pay for seats/bags everything it seems unless you have OW Status.
I still show up as an AAAdvantage member with same number and no status, my few FF points from previous trips expired as well...BUT where do I type in my QF FF number to get Gold/Saphire benefits? Or do you just book and show Gold card at checkin?
This is for US to US domestic flights, not linked to the QF INT flights at all.

If you have an AA number but want to use QF, try booking without logging in. You’ll get a prompt to enter FF details with PAX info.

Morning,

Im now booking a basic economy internal AA flight over the phone and the agent is telling me as a platinum I only get one free checked bag. Is this correct ? I thought I got 2 checked bags, or is that only when booked int he main cabin?

Thanks

There’s a thread on this topic.

Did you try booking online? Personally, I’d probably just book the regular whY fare to avoid any confusion over OWE benefits.
