AA's SYD-LAX flight

I'm just about to pull the trigger on the current QF sale and will try AA J on the way over to LAX. I'm not a fan of Skybeds but I do like CX J class seats. Not too fussed about soft product, except Sundaes. I'd love it if there were sundaes :D
I did the same. SYD-LAX on AA and LAX-MEL on QF. Putting a points upgrade in for QF to F though (currently F9, so liking my chances). Got a great deal all the way through to SEA from my travel agent (on the QF code, AS Metal but unfortunately tickets into D not F/A/P so only J SC's).

Great minds think alike :D
The upgrade is going in for QF12 ;)
I did think about routing back through DFW but couldn't get the price down to the super cheap fare due to the AA connector unless I booked through AA.

AA was better in J than QF on the return based on seat comfort and privacy. Comparing an old 747 with a new 777 is a bit harsh but Qantas have to run with the planes they have.

Was there another equipment swap or was you return flight always on a 747 ?

Sure - but the soft product is a huge differential - especially with QF 380 (QCCA) crews.

Mrscove picked up 50% SC bonus on our $4995 fare in J. We used Virgin points to go J Perth to Sydney in a latest fit out A330 and 10,000 Qantas points upgrade off a flexi fare to get home in J in a newly fitted out A330.
We were allowed to get to LAX on the way into the US which was convenient rather than have to go to SFO only to fly back.

Was there a QF $4995 fare? I have only seen the AA one.

When they launched the AA flights you could book on QF code return for $4995. That's what we did for our recent Jan flights booked last Nov.

I saw PF's post "I'm just about to pull the trigger on the current QF sale and will try AA J on the way over to LAX. I'm not a fan of Skybeds but I do like CX J class seats. AA have it for AU$5200 to most of US on AA codeshares (very nice 2x EQM for AA pax).

Sorry. My misunderstanding. Definitely a nice hard product. Hope you get to try it soon.

QF similar I think. My fare was $5.7K rtn to JFK.

Thought they were doing another $4995 sale :) AA is same to JFK.

For those people looking at crediting to AA, there is the AUS16 promo for 30k bonus through to May 31st. If you are doing the LAX-JFK, you can some times get it to book into D, and bump the long flight bonus up (12k for EXP and 6k for Gold/Plat each way v 3.5k & 1k for I class). So it's possible to get 78k bonus miles for EXP (if I work it out right) 4x12k +30k. That's in addition to the RDM's from flight (about 50k I think) and 40k EQM's.

I looked up what Mrscove received as kickers and she received or will receive 136,600 QF points and 540 Status credits for her trip going SYD-LAX and SFO-SYD on that $4995 sale deal. That includes the 50% status SC offer as well as the passing 2400 SC bonus. Separately she gets 9,990 credit card points and of course our business gets Aquire points that get used by our business.
I think that worked out quite well.
See further down for corrections due to jetlag.

How does she get that many QFF points??

That's 86,600 after you deduct the 2400 bonus (which is not part of the fare earn at all).

Please explain.....

Ok it was 2 lots of 36,000 plus an 8000 loyalty bonus and 50,000 for passing 2400 SCs. I am jet lagged so I included 6600 points incorrectly so that part of this trip produced 130,000 QF points rather than 136,600. Quite a good result I think.
Our next 3 trips are SQ Suites runs so no status nor miles earn as they are booked using Kris Miles.
The idea of eliminating the 50,000 bonus is interesting but it was the result of paying for this ticket rather than go with SQ.

1/ If you repeat the trip tomorrow - you won't get the 50K - so that calculation plays no part in trip earnings.
2/ The loyalty bonus is probably fair to include based on the SC earn - that's repeatable for most folks who are eligible.
3/ SYD-SFO/LAX is only 22.5K earn each way as a WP, so how did you earn 36K each way?? Or was it booked pre-S&F?

I can see I double counted due to jet lag dfcatch. She gets that 50,000 most years.

I have just received a 50% offer so I could get the 22,500 plus 22,500 plus 8,000 plus 50,000 and the additional SCs.

Lol.

Either way - it's a decent haul for a decent J price.
