AA's SYD-LAX flight

Flew AA72/73 with Mrs CJD600 and Miss 8 and Miss 6. Both ways we had the right side of the J forward minicabin which worked well. The two little ones on the window 3J and 4J, parents across aisle from each. Hard product do much better than our previous QF 744 and 388 J experiences. Soft product okay, not too bad (apart from frozen beer lol). Availability aside, we found it a much better spend of our QF points saving $3k or so on charges using AA metal instead of QF for 4 x J return SYD-LAX

Great review. I was quite impressed by AA trans-pac in J, especially that mini cabin.
I think that would be a good use of points for a family redemption for me, hadn’t really considered it so thank you :)

Quick question about booking SYD-LAX or LAX-SYD flying AA using QF points - can this be done on the QF website or do you need to call Qantas to make the award booking? Do you just search for availability via AA?
Thanks :)

If seats are available they'll appear on the Qantas website, where you also make the booking.

They can be booked but you need to call at the moment.

There has been a 'glitch' in the system for some time.

First find the availability on AA.com.

Reports are the agents will waive the phone fee due to needing to call.

Looking at my tin foil hat ... Naah ..

Tomorrow, my daughter is Y on AA 72. No centre aisle MCE avaiable, so she has risked taking a middle seat in a currently 'empty' row 18B. So, I'm wondering, it looks very open at the monment, what are people experiences, is there any last minute rush normally? What she'd really like is a row of 3 in the MCE if the rest of the row gets upgraded. Any thoughts please?

Not gonna happen - that’s not a smart move at all.

The aisle and window WILL get taken.

Whilst I have seen folks score a row of 3 in MCE - it happens only maybe 1/10 flights IME.

And usually only on a quiet midweek ex-LAX flight.

That flight is almost guaranteed to fill with non-revs into MCE.

Thanks, not sure if you mean an empty MCE row is unlikely, or ANY row of 3 is unlikely, or does it apply to both options?
