AA's SYD-LAX flight

Yes, you can get it on a rewards flight. They can do all sorts of weird and wonderful. I have seen reports of them refunding points (if you used AA) or dollars paid, booking you in a higher class on a later flight, paying for hotels, meals, taxi's AND giving you compensation (apparently $600-$800 is the sweet spot to get other bonuses). It does appear that the rebooked flights also earn points/credits. I just did LAX-ORD-BOS-LGA-MIA-PTY-MIA-TPA-DFW-LAX and every single flight was 100% capacity. I wasn't particularly listening but heard at least a few offering compensation.

In saying that, looking at loadings on SYD-LAX, they are 2/3 full most of the time. It is not a heavily loaded route.

I got bumped last year on a SFO-LAX flight that was a confirmed upgrade via SWU. I got a $300 voucher and put on next flight. It was totally fine - just spent a bit more time in lounge and got $300 for basically an hour of my time. Win!

I'm on this flight (LAX-SYD) on Friday night, wondering about security. Which is quicker, security at T4 then connector to TBIT, or walk to TBIT after checking in and going through security there?

I recently flew out of TBIT on AA but on a morning domestic leg, the terminal was all but deserted, one security queue open, through in a few minutes, but I haven't been through at this time before.

Now with AAEagle re-checkin (post interline changed thanks to Blighty) at T4/6 for Eagles Nest , would it be worth it doubling back via TBIT security in the morning then use airside connectors to T4 AA AL?

And in the evening for return re-checkin at TBIT after arrival at T6/4 then sneaking back to T4 security and airside connector to QF lounge?

This is so confusing... ^^^^.

Where are you arriving and where are you departing? That's not terribly clear from your post.

haha!!
(QF) MEL-LAX // (AA) LAX-DEN. Return

Is one sector an award flight? If so - QF will thru-check.

Otherwise - assuming that you're departing from T4 - once checked in I usually have a quick look at the security line and decide whether to walk back around to TBIT - in the morning it's pretty empty.

Evening - it really depends on the day - but I usually just fight it out at TBIT. They have been playing around with the "passenger flow" and it seems that they are a bit more efficient than they used to be.

Evening is the worst time for TBIT - I'd go T4.
I'd use the recently opened TBIT arrivals security. It's generally rather quiet.

It's off the lower road, so I suggest checkin in at T4, walk around to TBIT, head down the stairs/escalator, enter TBIT arrivals hall then turn left.

It's down at the end, more here:

Right answer! There were about 4 people in the security queue there, the TBIT security lines looked slow (not awful though).

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this recently, but my AA72 flight in May 2017 has just been cancelled.

Got an email from Qantas saying that I needed to call them as there was an issue with my flight.

Turns out AA cancelled it from what the lady at Qantas was saying.

Luckily she was able to put me on the QF11 in J and I didn't need to pay the extra taxes as it was an airline fault. So a good outcome.

But perhaps AA isn't getting enough bookings hence cancelling the flight? Seems odd since it's 6 months away...?

I agree, it does seem odd that they would be cancelling it this early on if it were due only to poor sales. I wonder if any other services have been similarly affected.

At least you have been given an agreeable alternative and at no additional cost.

I saw where there are some problems extending the tie up between qantas and AA with ?antitrust issues

I have had a time change on my AA Trans Pacific flight next August. But still (currently) operating!

Same with me for AA72 + AA73 next August, alert of timing change for each, flights still operating
4 x J awards booked through QF

I was called by CX to alert me about a time change on an award seat for April 2017

our flight from Sydney to LA in Business was full when we flew in September. It really seems odd to cancel that flight- but, win win for you, because our Qantas flight coming home was fabulous, whereas the AA flight going over was nothing great. and, I left our complimentary AA pajamas onboard - so annoyed about that

Qantas emailed me about the time change on my reward return flight from BKK in August 2017, and my travel agent emailed me about a time change to my Haneda flight in April 2017.
I guess they are responding to schedule changes in the coming months.
