I have a 6 character booking reference from AA - should I be able to look it up on any of the online tools like checkmytrip? I'm not having much luck.

My partner also has an AA booking reference, but it has her QFF number in the booking so she can see it on the Qantas site, but displayed there is a different reference and that other reference DOES work on checkmytrip. The AA issued one doesn't.

I assume this is a difference in booking system issue, but I'm still confused. :)

Can I find the reference for my trip that will work, or an online site that I can use?

Chrisb.

You can check it on the AA site.

AA use a different booking system and the AA site is the only site I know of where you can view the itinerary using their code.

When flying on Qantas (or several other airlines), they export the reservation into Amadeus which is the booking system Qantas uses.

If you call Qantas, they should be able to tell you the Amadeus reference which you can then use to check your booking via the Qantas site. You'll need the date of travel, flight number and departure airport.

It's very simple ...
  • Go to AA.com
  • Select the "View Reservations" Tab (between 'Make Reservation' & 'Flight Check-In').
  • Either Login to your AA account or select 'Continue Without Logging In'.
  • In the find reservations box enter the 'Passenger First Name', 'Passenger Last Name' & the six digit 'Record Locator' you mention.
  • Click go...

Yeah, sorry, i forgot to include "other than AA". Although I would love to know why AA's "My Reservations" never seems to remember that this booking exists for more than 24hrs, even though it has my AA FF number in it, and was booked via AA.

AA reservations that include AA flights can generally be viewed at VirtuallyThere.com. But I just checked a Sabre booking reference for QF-only flights and it does not show there. aa.com and virtuallythere.com are the only places to view Sabre bookings on-line.

I called Qantas and got the reference and I can now see it on the usual tools. Also, the booking I can see in checkmytrip/qantas didn't have a FF number listed at all, so Qantas added my QF number for me. (Not that it matters other than for flight tracking - It's a U class booking)

Oddly the AA booking does show my AA number - Why wouldn't this flow across to QF? I now have a booking that AA thinks has my AAFF number and QF thinks has my QFF number.

No wonder ETickets and the like are still being rolled out if it's all this complex ;)

Somewhat related - how long does it take AA.com to ticket/send email receipt? Its been several hours and no receipt yet. I've never waited this long before with AA or other airlines when booking online their own site.

any time from a few minutes to several hours. You can check that it is ticketed by checking the reservation on aa.com. When it shows a status of Ticketed <date> , then it is complete

Ahh, just need to wait a while then

There is a benefit with the delay in issuing that does sometimes occur with AA if you realised that you've made a screw up ; can often sort them out easily with no fee before ticketing

It is now 24 hours. Is it possible they've fixed the website loophole for overseas cc?

I would suggest a call to AA and just see what's up with the ticket issuance

I did that once the office opened. They weren't aware of any issues delaying ticketing other than helpfully suggesting can't be bought online from here  I don't think they'd even know if the loophole has been closed since they were sure it didn't exist in the first place.

Oh well - fit in a visit to the ticketing office to sort out.

I wonder about the legality of AA refusing to sell tickets to Australians when they happily sell them to citizens of other countries. Especially as Australia has a 'free trade agreement' with the USA. Can anyone knowledgeable comment on this?

They don't refuse to sell tickets to Aussies. They just don't accept a credit card billing address with an Australian address. They will happily sell tickets to Aussies if they have a USA or UK credit card.

I learnt a tidbit which comes in useful. The website will happily process NZ or AU credit cards as long as the $ for the ticket is under some amount - above this AA does a credit check which is why my purchase went in limbo.

Now I know from previous dealings that the local ticket office has to sight the card for purchases over NZ$1000 so my guess is the website has a US$500 or so limit before doing the extra checks.

This explains why some past purchases on the website went through fine and this particular one didn't.

Yes but only when I visited AA's ticketing office. The online booking got "stuck" when they try to do a credit check.

So you had to go the the (North Sydney?) AA office in person.... that's quite a hassle. I wonder if I could do this over the phone if necessary. Did they accept your CC then?

Not sure about Kiwi's experience, but I was able to pay my taxes for an AA award flight through AA Sydney office via the phone and fax. They said they only needed the fax (a basic payment form and copy of my credit card signiture panel) because the tickets were not in my name (Mrs NM and two Mini NM's), otherwise they could have just taken the credit card details over the phone and processed.

They sent me the form via email for me to print, complete, sign and fax back. The whole process took me less than 5 mins efort.

So I very much doubt there would be a need to visit the office. And that may be a little difficult to do in about a month's time anyway.
