A tale of two SYD-PER flights IFE

A lot of the miners are now getting no SC's or points as part of cost savings by the companies.

As I am not in the industry I am relying on friends but many have commented that SC's are a thing of the past.

I have plenty of former workmates nailing the top tiers of status through their work flying. 10 return flights to maintain gold and 20 for platinum. Whilst I fly discount economy and get half the SCs..:mad:

Well I just OLCI for Tuesday's 3.15pm Per-Syd and have a SkyBed for the trip home on a A332.

Should be a good trip:mrgreen:

Depends on who your flying with. I fly on average once a week (sometimes more), and have nothing except QF Silver + corp QP membership. But, if you add ALL my flying (including Skywest, Network, Skippers, Maroomba, Virgin and Qantas) and put it into a FULL whY SC earning table, l'd be WP+PG, easily. That's life l guess. Oh well...

You should be so lucky, we are still getting 737-400 on some PER-AD-PER flights. J has split seats and not even have footrests.

Rode on two of them yesterday. I love them when I get row 4 or 5. Plenty of leg room, and they usually avoid filling the middle seat based on the arm rests having the drink-tables in them (due to convertible J). Had empty seats on both the MEL-ADL and ADL-PER segments (was the same a/c).

Nothing else about the 734's is nice though. That said, the Y pitch on a QF 738 is woeful.

Someone did the math on a normal Fly in/Fly out type miner from PER to the mines. It was determined that most would only just get SG based on a 4 week on/4 week off roster. This is why a lot of us are hoping for a J lounge, as the reality of getting WP on that kind of roster is not high. It should be re-named the Qantas Miners Lounge :)

drewbles,
Most rosters are
3 days on, 3 off (days+nights)
4 days on, 4 days off
8 days on, 6 days off
21 days on, 5 off
2 weeks on, 1 off
3 weeks on, 1 off
4 weeks on, 1 off
5 weeks on, 1 off

The only EVEN time, that you talking about, would be "offshore". Most likely, 2 on + 2 off, or 3 on + 3 off. (all weeks, full pay). Mostly Rigs. Barges are a different story once again.

Most of the geo guys when l worked, years ago, at a particular site, were all QF WP. They were getting 60SC every week from work travel.

Does anyone else feel they need to bring a hi-viz jacket with them when using the PER DOM QP just to fit in?

Ok I stand to be corrected (thanks ;)).

In that case, the J lounge may become the hi-viz lounge, and the normal QP would be hi-viz free. If that was the case, i'd probably 'slum' it in the QP :)

The real hardcore mining/mining construction 'dudes' wear the hubcap sized belt buckles as well!

You wonder why with security making them take them off each time through.

Might have to pack the high-vis vest next time though!

Hmm, no one I know has had that happen to them. The only thing I can think of, is if they're flying XR, NC or Alliance.

Not really.... I find there's a few in the QP early morning, but not a huge amount that would overpower the non miner flyers.

Came over to PER on QF575 on Tuesday expecting that nice shiny plane with individual IFE and lo and behold we've gone back to the A330-200. Looked in good condition but just the shared IFE.

I thought it was a bit different that they showed 'Amelia' (about Amelia Earhart) - never seen a movie on a plane which involved a plane crashing before. I think there was a scene cut where she had an accident at one stage but I can't be sure.

Going back to the general gripe about FAs from that "What do you expect" thread - on this flight it seems you get served breakfast soon after take-off then the FAs disappear for a couple of hours after clean up. They come through to drop off the biccie and water and then are only seen a bit later to pick up the rubbish. It's not much on a 5 hour flight. I don't expect much but you just see no one at all.
