Well SYD-PER and PER-SYD actually...
Monday flew to Perth on QF575. Plane was a new A330-200 (do they still make 200s or was it newly refurbished?) with individual IFE with almost all the same programming (ie a lot of shows) as I had on the SYD-LAX A380 in September. Managed to catch a few of the shows I didn't finish that time which was good. I'm sure when Captain High-Hat started the safety demo he said "Today you're travelling on an Airbus A380..." but I coulda bin mistaken. Anyway it was a great flight, when the IFE works (except for having to exchange the dodgy headphones) and there's this much choice you can't really complain.

Today I returned on QF576 which was a different story. It was a 767-338 with the old big screens in the middle and small ones down the sides, you know what I mean. When they ran the videos the colour was washed out and the sound didn't work. They tried the safety demonstration and that failed so the FAs had to go manual. What amazed me is that I'd reckon most of the WPs and probably SGs on this board could quote the safety monologue verbatim for any of the major planes however the FA just stumbled through it leaving most of it out over the years. I guess she'd tuned it out. When she said "you will find your life jacket under your seat..." I swear I saw a dozen people mouth the words "and under your armrest in Business Class" when she didn't say it!
Anyway we got underway and despite the best efforts at endlessly rebooting the IFE it never worked. Also there was an extremely irritating clicking sound over the PA that went for about 10 seconds every 30 seconds (or so it seemed) for the duration of the flight. Also the reading lights went off and didn't come back on until the last 30 minutes of the flight.

We arrived late after leaving late (Perth peak hour is 730am as the miners' planes take off) and I'm very glad I had a book to read! I can say the staff were excellent so no complaints there but the point of this post was to contrast the two planes really. With all the hoo-hah over Airbus Scarebus I thought I'd use this as a "road test" comparison example - which is about as scientific as Today Tonight.:)

Hi warks,

I was on the same flight, where they are so happy with the new plane they handed out feedback forms and gave away QF pens.:)

It is a brand new A330-203, or so QF claim as I have no way of checking.

It is a big let down when you go from the new bird to the sad bird:(

Oh yes I forgot the survey! I saw them giving the pens away with it. Only problem was they ran out of surveys around row 33 (I was in row 39) and didn't come back. When they came back to collect them they looked surprised as they didn't retrieve any surveys from the back.

Would have liked a pen!

Would have liked a pen!

It is very nice and I will treasure it:mrgreen:

Sorry to hear you missed out, perhaps a email to QFF and a complaint letter to nonews will get you a pen, or ten minutes of fame.

Depending on which aircraft flown (according to the CASA website)...

Rego / Model / Manufactured
EBG / A330-203 / 2007
EBH / A330-203 / 2008
EBI / A330-203 / 2008
EBJ / A330-202 / 2008
EBK / A330-202 / 2008
EBL / A330-203 / 2008
EBM / A330-202 / 2009

There are certain website that contain QF ACARS logs which may be able to help you find the rego of the A332 you were on

Monday's QF575 was most definitely operated by VH-EBM (operating the same flight today as well).

FWIW, yesterday's QF576 was operated by VH-OGI which entered the Qantas fleet in Aug '91 (it had a sojourn with Australian Airlines from Oct '02 before re-entering the Qantas fleet in May '06).

Good info. I only went by the laminated emergency card in the seat pocket which told me it was a A330-200 - obviously no need to get more specific than that on the card!

I was surprised to get on a 767 as I only ever seem to get A330s to Perth and back. I had the thought a while ago that anyone afraid of Airbuses but didn't like Virgin could be stuck!

Yeah, the inconsitent product isnt helping QF much.

What's the difference between a 330-203 and 330-202?

You should be so lucky, we are still getting 737-400 on some PER-AD-PER flights. J has split seats and not even have footrests.

Thanks. Interesting they'd take delivery of a mixture of engine-specs (looking at the list of deliveries from Davo70.)

Typically the domestic aircraft have a lower rated spec than the international configured aircraft.

Lol. Peak hour is 0530-0630. Anything later and you're laughed at as having slept in and caught the later flight.;)

Don't worry, that is one of the routes earmarked for the new AVOD 73H's when they start arriving!

Yeah I'm glad I didn't see that! The QP is full of folks in high-vis clothing and names of mines on their shirts at this time. When we taxied out and sat there for 15 minutes the pilot said there were 6 planes ahead of us! The QF planes were for Newman and Paraburdoo and maybe Karratha and I guess there were more there from other airlines.
Going by how packed the QP is with miners and other employees I'd assume that QP membership is a given.

I know that (assuming because of their buying power) if travel is being paid for by Rio Tinto or BHPB the person flying gets full economy SCs and a flat rate fare is paid. Give most miners work rosters like 2weeks on and 1 off they fly enough to get Platinum/Gold ensuring the lounge is chockers each and every morning.

Newman, Para, KTA and Port Hedland all leave pre 0630.

A lot of the miners are now getting no SC's or points as part of cost savings by the companies.

As I am not in the industry I am relying on friends but many have commented that SC's are a thing of the past.
